River Hawks Host New Hampshire, Visit NJIT

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (2-9-2, 1-3-0 AE) is due for a pair of contests this week, first inviting New Hampshire (9-2-1, 4-0-0 AE) to Cushing Field on Thursday, October 17, kicking off at 6 p.m. before traveling to NJIT (3-9-1, 0-4-0 AE) on Sunday, October 20, kicking off at 1 p.m. on Lubetkin Field.

Looking at UMass Lowell
The River Hawks took down the Catamounts last week in a 2-0 victory at home.

Senior Emma Mitchell (West Orange, N.J.) recorded the game-winning goal for UMass Lowell and shut down Vermont's offensive efforts. This River Hawk defender had an excellent game on both ends of the field. Her performance earned her the title of America East Defensive Player of the Week. Senior Hope Santaniello (Agawam, Mass.) secured the River Hawks' second goal. Mitchell, senior Laura Cetina (A Coruña, Galicia, Spain), and sophomore Luka Marceau (Newton, Mass.) each tallied two shots.

Graduate student Taylor Burgess (Mendon, Mass.) was in net for UMass Lowell and made nine saves on the day, helping guide the River Hawks to a shutout.
 
Scouting the Wildcats
New Hampshire had last week off after securing two wins the week prior. The Wildcats took a 1-0 win against UAlbany on October 3 and then grabbed the road win on October 6 at NJIT, 2-0, marking their fourth America East victory of the season.

In the match versus UAlbany, the lone goal scorer for the Wildcats was Sina Anger scoring in the 35th minute. New Hampshire allowed UAlbany to just one shot, while they were able to record 25. Delaney Lappin took seven shots, with Meghan Guarente on her heels with six. Sally Rainey got the nod in net for the Wildcats, but did not face any shots.

In the NJIT contest, Guarente would score both of New Hampshire's goals. She led the team with four shots. The Wildcats and the Highlanders were even with shots at nine apiece. Rainey received the start in this game as well, making three saves.

Guarente is the team's top point scorer with 17 on eight goals and one assist, and 41 shots. Lappin has 10 points on four goals and two assists and 24 shots.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT played one contest last week, falling 3-1 to UAlbany, and is yet to win a conference game.

The Highlanders' goal scorer in that most recent contest was Briana Andreoli, taking five shots throughout the match. Kelsey Ramos ended the day with six shots. NJIT outshot UAlbany, 20-16. Samantha Constantine was the keeper for the Highlanders, making three saves.

Andreoli is the offensive leader for NJIT with eight points on three goals and two assists, with 41 total shots. Ciara Adams is close behind with six points on a pair of goals and assists, with 15 total shots.

In net, Constantine has eight starts with nine games played and Mojisola Ayodele has received five starts with eight games played. Constantine has made 16 saves to average a .640 save percentage. She has recorded two wins so far this season. Ayodele has made 22 saves, earning a .710 save percentage. She has posted one win this season.

Leading the Flock
Brookshire, the veteran, has six points on one goal and four assists with 16 shots. Eckroth tallies four points on two goals, with nine shots. Freshman Mia Eva Girgis (Montreal, Quebec), junior Hilary Jaén (Las Margaritas, Panama), Sage, and Santaniello follow with three points apiece. Cetina and Mitchell each have two points. Cetina has recorded 18 shots and Mitchell has eight.
 
Between the Sticks
Burgess is the go-to keeper for the River Hawks, as she has plenty of experience as a graduate student. She has totaled 1035 minutes so far, with 12 starts. Burgess has made 77 saves to earn an .802 save percentage.
 
Around the America East
UMass Lowell is ranked second in the conference for three categories, including save percentage (.811), saves per game (6.42), and shot accuracy (.455). Brookshire holds first in the America East for shot accuracy (.615). Burgess places second in three areas, including save percentage (.802), saves per game (6.42), and total saves (77).
