River Hawks Compete at 53rd Dartmouth Relays

HANOVER, N.H.—
Determined running and top finishes highlighted the evening as the UMass Lowell men's track & field team traveled to Dartmouth to compete at the 53rd Dartmouth Relays.

Much of the men's squad made the trek to Hanover, N.H. to compete in the Dartmouth Relays and the first event of 2024.

"Solid first meet back from break," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It's always tough jumping back in after a few weeks without competing. I thought the team did a nice job and looking forward to growing in the next few weeks."

At Dartmouth, freshman David McKinnon (Bloomsbury, N.J.) led the River Hawks, competing in his first collegiate mile run, earning the victory with a personal best time of 4:28.51. Junior Adnan Abdirahman (Dorchester, Mass.) (4:30.04) and sophomore Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) (4:30.42) rounded out the top three. Freshmen Samuel Denis (Taunton, Mass.) (4:41.18), Declan Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass. ) (4:41.30), Dean Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) (4:43.00) and Seyha Rath (Lowell, Mass.) (4:45.55) all competed in their first collegiate one mile, finishing eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively. 

The River Hawks showcased their talent and strength in the long-distance events. In the 3000m run, sophomore Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) secured second place with a mark of 9:02.75. Freshman Nicholas Marcotte (Hudson, N.H.) impressed on the track, taking the victory in the 1000 meter with a time of 2:40.15, while freshman Nicholas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) (2:40.93) crossed the line next, finishing .78 seconds behind his teammate to land second place.

In the 60 meter dash, Adam Katerji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) ran hard, running a time of 7.19 to take seventh place, and was the lead River Hawk in the 200 meter dash, grabbing fifth place with a time of 23.75.

In the 500 meter run, seven River Hawks finished consecutively. Sophomore Basit Iddriss (Milford, Mass.) led the way with a first-place finish and a 1:05.88 mark. Senior Hunter Marino (Weymouth, Mass.) (1:06.03) and Thomas Jordan (Needham, Mass.) (1:06.38) finished back-to-back in second and third to round out the top three. Sophomore's Michael Soucy (Methuen, Mass.) (1:07.25), Alejandro Lynch (1:07.34), and Tristian O'Riorden (1:07.36) finished within .11 seconds of each other to finish fourth, fifth, and sixth. Freshman Dennis Satchek (Boston, Mass.) made his collegiate debut in the 500 meter run, earning seventh place and a time of 1:07.50.

Freshman Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.) was the lead River Hawk in the 200 meter dash, grabbing fifth place with a time of 23.75.

In the field events, freshman Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) shined, earning a victory after recording a personal best 1.90m jump. Junior's Luke Stelmach (Sterling, Mass.) and Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) recorded a 1.85m mark, earning second and third, respectively. Sophomore Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the event in fourth, earning a personal best jump of 1.75m. Three River Hawks finished consecutively to round out the top 10 of the long jump event. Freshman Brandon Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) took eighth with a leap of 6.55m, while graduate student Evans Oduro (Kumasi, Ghana) (6.54m) and junior Ben Ayotte (Salisbury, Mass.) (5.56m) finished in ninth and tenth.

In the shot put, senior Luis Cadime (Lowell, Mass.) had another impressive performance, taking fourth place with a 14.40m throw. Cadime continued to show his strength in the field events, recording a personal best of 15.07m in the weight throw. Sophomore Peter Gardikas also recorded a personal best, reaching a mark of 14.72m.

In the pole vault event, senior Maxwell Davis was the lone River Hawk to compete, taking second place with a vault of 4.35m.

Next, the River Hawks travel to the Track at New Balance in Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the Ice Breaker Invitational on January 13th.
