Several River Hawks Compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass.— Several members of the UMass Lowell men's track & field team traveled to the Track and Tennis Center in Boston to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.

Junior Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Ethan Mashtare (St. Albans, Vt.) both took part in the 1 mile run, each recording solid times and finishing in the top 100. Mashtare was the first River Hawk to cross the line, claiming 72nd with a 4:09.17, a new personal best. Benassi crossed the line shortly after, taking 82nd after earning a time of 4:10.64, also a new personal best.

Five River Hawks competed in the 3000-meter run, all finishing in the top 55 of the event. Junior Joe Young (Dorchester, Mass.) was the first to cross the line, taking 19th place with a personal best mark of 8:07.30. Junior Wouter Van Den Akker (Groningen, Netherlands) followed, earning 27th with a time of 8:09.85. Nate DeAngelo (Bristol, Conn.) (8:12.32) and Tyler Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) (8:12.48) finished within .16 seconds of each other, taking 34th and 35th, respectively. Sophomore Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger was the last River Hawk to cross the line, recording a 54th-place finish after running a time of 8:17.69, crushing his previous personal best by 20 seconds.

The final event saw senior Hunter Marion (Templeton, Mass.) and junior Will Benoit (Fairhaven, Mass.) participate in the 5000-meter event. Benoit took home 34th, crushing his previous personal best by 17 seconds and recording a 14:23.55 mark. Marion crossed the line shortly after, earning 39th after running a mark of 14:27.25.

Next, the River Hawks host the second day of the River Hawk Invitational at the TRACK at New Balance tomorrow afternoon.
