River Hawks Set to Visit New Hampshire and Vermont

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (1-3-4-, 1-0-0 AE) will hit the road for a pair of tough conference matchups this week. The River Hawks visit New Hampshire for a Thursday night clash before heading to Burlington for a Sunday afternoon meeting with Vermont.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks earned their first conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over NJIT last Sunday. It's the first win of the season for the River Hawks, who will look to continue the momentum into Thursday's matchup with New Hampshire. Luka Marceau scored her second goal of the season and Chloe Layne opened her account with a clinical finish in the win over the Highlanders. Taylor Burgess made one save to earn her first clean sheet of the year.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire is 1-1 in conference so far this season with a 2-0 win over Bryant last time out. The Wildcats fell to Binghamton 1-0 in their opening game of league play. Meghan Guarente leads the team with 11 points from a team-high four goals and three assists. Seven other Wildcats have found the back of the net giving the team options going forward. Guarente leads the league in shots (37) and shots on goal (20). New Hampshire has allowed just nine goals this season, second in the league rankings.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell is 3-4-4 against New Hampshire dating back to the 2013 season. The last meeting between the teams ended in a 1-1 draw last season.
 
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Vermont sits at 6-3 overall but is 0-1 in conference play after falling to Maine 3-2 in their league opener. Kate Bossert leads the way with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Bailey Ayer has a team-high five assists to go with one goal while five other Catamounts have found the back of the net. Kylee Carafoli is second in the league with 26 saves and just five goals against while also sitting second in the league in saves per game with 5.20.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell is 4-3-3 against Vermont dating back to the 2013 season. Last season's meeting saw the River Hawks win a 4-3 thriller at Cushing.
 
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
Maine and Binghamton sit atop the league standings with 2-0 records. The River Hawks are placed third with a 1-0 record with New Hampshire just below at 1-1. Bryant, NJIT, UAlbany and UMBC are all tied with 0-1-1 records. Vermont is currently 0-1 at the bottom of the table.
 
FRESHMAN IMPACT
The freshman class has made an impact on this River Hawks' team. Luka Marceau has scored twice this season and Diana Jerychowski tallied an assist. Franzisca Sinclair has made two starts and been a valuable member of the defensive unit along with Eliana Parreira. Marissa Sage has started all eight games this season in the midfield and Kaitlyn Tung has provided depth in the middle of the field.
 
BETWEEN THE STICKS
Taylor Burgess has started this season incredibly well for the River Hawks. The veteran has produced timely saves and highlight reel stops to keep UMass Lowell in games and give the team a chance to pick up points. Burgess sits fourth in the league in saves with 41 and third in saves per game with 5.13.
