BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior
Morgan Fisher (Glassboro, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI, as the UMass Lowell softball team (20-27-1, 8-12 AE) picked up a 3-2 victory at UMBC (23-15, 15-4 AE) in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
Along with Fisher, graduate student
Tori Mueller (Clovis, Calif.) and sophomore
Emily Tow (North Kingstown, R.I.) each collected a hit and run scored, while freshman
Shannon Howes (Palgrave, Ontario) ended the day 1-for-2 with a walk. Senior
Ryley White (Wareham, Mass.) pitched 4.2 innings in relief for the win, allowing just one hit and tallying three strikeouts in the outing.
The River Hawks got the bats going early, plating two runs in the first inning. Mueller singled and graduate student
Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y.) walked in back-to-back at bats, before Fisher singled to left field, driving in both runners to give the River Hawks the 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, UMBC evened the score in the third, driving in two runs on three hits. However, the River Hawks fought back, regaining the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Tow singled to right field to lead off the inning, before advancing into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from senior
Brenna Davenport (Merrimack, N.H.). Later on in the next at bat, Tow stole third and crossed the plate on a UMBC throwing miscue to make it a one-run lead for the River Hawks.
Ryley White turned it on throughout the remainder of the game, allowing just one UMBC hit and striking out three to secure the 3-2 victory.
With the regular season slate wrapped up, the River Hawks will now set their eyes on the America East tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 10.
