FAIRFAX, Va. – The UMass Lowell men's and women's track and field team competed in day one of the 2023 ECAC/IC4A Championships hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., as two graduate students ran their final career races.
In the men's 5K, graduate student
Drew Everett ran the last race of his decorated UMass Lowell career, finishing in 10th place with a time of 14:30.18. Graduate student
Sean O'Neill (New Egypt, N.J.) also ran his last race on Saturday, competing in the 800m run. He finished with a 1:59.02 mark in 36th. Sophomore
Graham Stedfast (Rowley, Mass.) was the first River hawk to cross the finish line in the 800, earning sixth place with a 1:51.65 mark, while freshman
Jonathan Stock finished in 29th with a time of 1:54.95. Junior
Hunter Marion (Templeton, Mass.) ran a good 10K for the River Hawks, finishing in sixth place with a time of 31:08.42.
"It was a good day," said Assistant Coach Kazeem "Dayo" Ibraheem. "Great to see our seniors race one last time."
The three runners in the women's 5K all earned personal records in the race and finished within the top 17. Freshman
Mary-Kate Finn was the first to finish, earning eighth place with a personal-best time of 17:06.19 .Fellow Freshman
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) was behind her in 11th place, picking up her personal-best time of 17:16.22, while junior
Hannah Doherty's (Billerica, Mass.) personal-best 17:40.91 mark was good for 17th.
Three members of the men's squad ran the 1,500m race, as sophomore
Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) was the first to cross, running to a personal-best 3:51.47 mark for 15th place. Junior
Paul Neilan and freshman
Ethan Mashtare (St. Albans, Vt.) finished back-to-back in 38th and 39th with times of 4:02.86 and 4:03.72, respectively.
In the men's and women's 100m prelims, junior
Madison Marsh (Dudley, Mass.) competed for the women, while senior
Michael Blake (Hudson, Mass.) ran for the men. Marsh came in 22nd place overall with a time of 12.57. Blake collected 16th place with a 10.91 mark.
The team will return tomorrow for day two, with the first event at 11:15 a.m.
