The game saw four River Hawk pitchers enter the game as well. Graduate student
Kaylie See (Chino, Calif.) got the start in the circle, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing three earned runs and two hits with one strikeout. Sophomore
Jen Slanovec (Bethlehem, Pa.) took over for See in the second inning, going just 0.1 innings before graduate student
Emily Reid (Dighton, Mass.) entered the game. Reid pitched well, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with one strikeout. Freshman
Giana LaCedra came in for Reid in the sixth inning, finishing off the game for the River Hawks with 1.2 innings of work with one hit and one strikeout.
The River Hawks came out firing, tallying two runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Mueller reached base on a Retriever miscue to get things going, and Case followed it up with a hard-hit RBI double to the right center gap. Tow went on to single later in the inning to drive in Case for the 2-0 lead.
UMBC retaliated immediately in a big way, scoring all five of their runs in the top half of the second. Jerzie Nutile led off the inning with a solo home run to get the Retrievers on the board, and they added four more on two RBI singles and a River Hawk defensive miscue to make it 5-2. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game, as UMBC's Kya Matter battled with the River Hawks bullpen to keep the score the same for all seven innings.
Next up, the River Hawks will travel to Maine for a three-game America East Conference series on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m., while Sunday's game three is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
