Saturday vs UMBC: Watch (AE.tv) | Live Stats

LOWELL, Mass.—On the hunt for the first win of the season, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-8, 0-3 America East) travels to Baltimore, Md., for a noon tilt against UMBC (6-3, 1-2 AE) on Saturday, April 8. The game will be streamed on AE.tv.

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend, the River Hawks dropped a 21-10 decision to Binghamton at home. Sophomore Riley Lawhorn had a career afternoon, posting a team and career-best five points off four goals and one assist. His four goals marked his second hat trick of the season and a new collegiate best for the midfielder. Justin Longo also turned in a collegiate best in goals, netting his first-ever hat trick. Jake Davis and Sean Parker also struck twine, with Davis putting up a pair of goals and Parker snagging one. Nick Harvath, Dakota Clark, Devin German and Curtis Redd closed out the points column, each ending the day with a helper. Owen Wills led the defense, forcing a team-high three caused turnovers and scooping five ground balls. Luke Renaud got the start in the cage, making seven saves.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Two River Hawks sit atop the leaderboard in points for UMass Lowell so far this season. Nick Harvath and Riley Lawhorn both have a share of first with 14 points. The team's leader in assists, Harvath has seven helpers and seven goals in his six games. Lawhorn's explosive sophomore season has launched him to the top of the squad in goals with 13, already doubling his season total from last year. Despite being an attackman, Longo has also been a major disruptor for the River Hawks with a team-high five caused turnovers in his five games. Behind Longo, sophomore Alexander Chairs and freshman Owen Wills share four caused turnovers each. Freshman FOGO Devin German has collected a squad-high 37 ground balls this season, while also earning 60 faceoff wins in his 152 attempts for a .395 win rate at the faceoff X.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
With a 6-3 (1-2 AE) record, the Retrievers are ready to bounce back into the win column after dropping a 12-6 decision to UAlbany just last week. Mateo Brown has been a major offensive spark for UMBC this season with 33 points off a team-high 29 goals and four helpers. He also leads the conference in shots per game (11.33) and ranks third in goals per game (3.22) Allen Hockenberry ranks second on the team with 20 points, but he leads the Retrievers with 12 assists in his nine games. Zach Dudley has been the go-to at the faceoff X, boasting a .483 faceoff win percentage after taking 86 of his 178 attempts this year. Dudley also owns a team-high 45 ground ball pickups. Defensively, Colby Weishaar and Ethan Robinson have been major issues for opponents, with 11 caused turnovers apiece. Tony Diallo sits just one off the top with ten caused turnovers. In the cage, Jayson Tingue has earned all nine starts for UMBC this season. He currently owns a conference-best 8.54 GAA and the second-best save percentage (.550) in all of America East.

A WIN WOULD
A win would give UMass Lowell its first tally in the win column this season. It would also mark Head Coach Drew Kelleher's first win at the helm for the River Hawks.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The River Hawks trail the Retrievers, 2-5, in the all-time series. UMBC comes into this weekend's matchup with a two-game win streak over UMass Lowell. The last time the River Hawks picked up a victory against UMBC was in 2019 when UMass Lowell made the trip down to Baltimore and earned the 13-12 overtime win.

UP NEXT
The River Hawks are back at Cushing Field on Friday, April 14, to faceoff against neighbors Merrimack at 7 p.m. for the team's annual Spread Respect game.
