LOWELL, Mass. – After a successful week in the circle for the UMass Lowell softball team (12-18-1, 2-3 AE), freshman Giana LaCedra (Tyngsboro, Mass.) has earned America East Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season. 

LaCedra started off the week with a five-inning, complete-game shutout against Merrimack in game two of their midweek doubleheader on March 29. She allowed just two hits while striking out four batters to help give the River Hawks the 12-0 run-rule victory.

Later in the week, LaCedra started game one of a three-game conference series with Bryant, tossing another complete game. The freshman tallied five strikeouts and just one earned run to help the River Hawks earn a 3-2 victory. 

She now moves to 7-4 on the year with seven complete games and three shutouts so far this season.
