Box Score Vestal, N.Y. – Junior
Morgan Fisher (Glassboro, N.J.) went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, as the UMass Lowell softball team (15-22-1, 5-7 AE) came up short at Binghamton (22-13, 8-4 AE), 6-3, in game one of a three-game America East Conference series.
Junior Ellie Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while freshman
Katelyn Fitzgerald (Ambler, Pa.) added two hits as well, in three at-bats. Freshman
Giana LaCedra (Tyngsboro, Mass.) got the start in the circle for the River Hawks, and graduate student
Kaylie See (Chino, Calif.) took over in the third, allowing one earned run and two hits.
The River Hawks were the first on the board, scoring one run in the top of the first. Frederick led off the game with a triple off the center field wall, eventually scoring on a squeeze bunt from graduate student
Mya Case (Syracuse, N.Y.). However, the Bearcats quickly responded, rallying for three runs in the bottom frame to take the lead. They would then add to that lead in the second, scoring a run on an Alison L'Amoreaux RBI single.
Frederick picked up her second hit of the game in the third inning, singling to shortstop, but the River Hawks were unable to drive her in. See entered the circle with runners on second and third, managing to shut down three consecutive batters to escape the bottom half.
The River Hawks once again threatened the Bearcats in the fourth inning, as senior
Cayla Tulley (Corona, Calif.) ripped a one-out double to left field and Fitzgerald singled to second base. Binghamton pitcher Sophia Pappas had other ideas though, getting out of the inning to halt the momentum.
The bats came alive for the River Hawks in the fifth, plating two runs on a Fisher double to left field. Senior
Brenna Davenport (Merrimack, N.H.) got it started with a leadoff double of her own, followed by a bloop single from graduate student
Tori Mueller (Clovis, Calif.) that she advanced to second on. Fisher cleared the bases with her double, putting the River Hawks back in the game. The squad could not complete the comeback, however, picking up just one hit in the remaining innings to fall by a score of 6-3.
The River Hawks return to Bearcats Sports Complex tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
