Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

River Hawks Drop 16-7 Decision to No. 12 Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-5) dropped a tough 16-7 decision to No. 12 Jacksonville (4-1) Wednesday afternoon at Rock Stadium. With the loss, the River Hawks drop to an all-time 1-2 mark against the Dolphins.

Graduate student Dakota Clark (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) paced the team with two goals each against the Dolphins. Senior Nick Harvath (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) matched Clark and Lawhorn with two points thanks to one goal and a helper. Junior Curtis Redd (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomore Khairi Sears (Columbus, Ohio) also found the back of the cage with one goal apiece.

Freshman Luke Renaud (Skaneateles, N.Y.) stopped 17 shots in his fifth straight start, just one shy of his season best.

"Coach Galloway and Jacksonville have built a tremendous program and had a great plan today," said Head Coach Drew Kelleher. "Our guys will continue to compete, and our staff will continue to push our culture forward."

Harvath sparked UMass Lowell's offense early with a goal just 1:25 into play, but the Dolphins quickly regrouped for a three-goal run to launch themselves out to a 3-1 advantage. The River Hawks bounced back with gritty offense, however, staying strong in the zone to add two more to the board to cap the first locked at 3-3.

Back-to-back goals for the Dolphins pushed the home squad to a 5-3 advantage with 11:43 remaining in the half. Relentless defense as well as smart goaltending by Renaud helped stifle Jacksonville's momentum, with the young goalie making nine stops in the first half alone. Lawhorn gave the River Hawks their first of the second quarter with 11:01 on the clock to cut the Dolphins' scoring run short. Though UMass Lowell worked steadily to limit Jacksonville's offensive opportunities, three more goals for the hosts left the River Hawks chasing a 9-4 deficit heading into halftime.

Sears cut Jacksonville's lead back to four with his first of the afternoon 1:27 into the third to five UMass Lowell momentum heading into the back half of the action. Renaud came up clutch with six saves to limit the Dolphins to just two goals in the frame to keep the River Hawks in the fight down just 11-5 with the fourth left.

Though Lawhorn and Clark made their way back into the scoring column with their second goals of the afternoon, Jacksonville tacked on another five goals in the fourth quarter to hand the River Hawks the 16-7 loss.

UMass Lowell wraps up its two-game road trip next Saturday, March 18, at UAlbany. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m. at Bob Ford Field.
