River Hawks Host Binghamton for Morgan’s Message Dedication Game

LOWELL, Mass.—Capping their two-game homestand, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-7, 0-2 America East) hosts Binghamton (6-2, 2-0 AE) this Saturday, April 1, at 11 a.m., at Cushing Field.

Morgan's Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community while also supporting equalized treatment for both physical and mental health in athletics. LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks hosted the Bryant Bulldogs last weekend at Cushing Field, dropping a 20-4 decision. Four different River Hawks struck twine in the tilt—Jake Davis, Riley Lawhorn, Curtis Redd and Dakota Clark. Khairi Sears and Sean Parker made their way onto the scoresheet with an assist each against Bryant. On defense, Alexander Chairs and Owen Wills forced a turnover apiece while also combining for three groundball pickups. Rookie Luke Renaud made another start in the cage, stopping 17 shots in his 45 minutes of action.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Nick Harvath continues to lead the team in points with 13 thanks to his seven goals and team-high six helpers. Behind Harvath, three River Hawks have amassed nine points through the first seven games—Sean Parker, Riley Lawhorn and Ben Roberts. With nine goals, Lawhorn leads the team in the category. He also owns a six-game goal streak through the first seven games of the season. Freshman faceoff specialist Devin German has won 53 of his 130 faceoff attempts for a .408 win percentage at X. German also leads the squad in groundball pickups with 33 this season. Alexander Chairs leads the team defensively with four caused turnovers so far in his sophomore campaign. In goal, freshman Luke Renaud has picked up starts in all seven games for the River Hawks. He owns a .491 save percentage and a 16.18 GAA at the halfway point.  
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
After a 5-9 season to cap the 2022 slate, the Bearcats have bounced back to go 6-2 in their first eight contests. Binghamton added to their now three-game win streak last Saturday with a 17-16 win over NJIT at home. Attackman Gage Adams led the way with a seven-point performance thanks to his team-high six goals and one assist. Gage currently sits in third on the team in points with 26 off 21 goals and five assists. Leading the way, Matthew Keegan and Thomas Greenblatt have 33 points apiece in their eight starts. Keegan has been a major scoring threat for the Bearcats this season with a team-best 26 goals and an added seven assists. Meanwhile, Greenblatt dominates the assist column with 20 so far in his fourth season. The duo sits amongst the top in America East in goals per game, assists per game, and points per game. At the X, Matthew DeSouza and Ross Chazanow have both seen an equal share of the action. DeSouza holds a slight edge over his FOGO counterpart with a .641 faceoff win percentage with 75 wins in his 117 faceoff attempts. He also leads the Bearcats in groundballs with 47 and ranks first in the conference in faceoff percentage. Chazanow sits in second with a .514 win percentage after 56 wins in his 109 attempts. Connor Winters has been the go-to in the cage for the Bearcats this season, posting a 6-2 record. Winters owns a .550 save percentage and an 11.51 goals against average.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win against the Bearcats would mark the first of the season for UMass Lowell as well as the first for Head Coach Drew Kelleher since coming to the Mill City.
  
ALL-TIME SERIES
Binghamton holds the advantage in the all-time series, holding a 5-2 edge over the River Hawks. Last time out, UMass Lowell edged out the Bearcats, 9-7, to pick up the win.

The River Hawks hit the road next Saturday, April 8, for Baltimore, Md., to take on UMBC.
