BOSTON—Graduate student Drew Everett (Amesbury, Mass.) of the UMass Lowell men's cross country team has been tabbed the 2023 America East Men's Cross Country Fall Scholar-Athlete, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon.

Scholar-Athlete winners have displayed excellence both academically and athletically throughout their careers. This year, UMass Lowell is one of six America East schools to have a student-athlete earn the distinction for the fall term.

Everett has been a leader both in the classroom and on the course for the River Hawks during his career. A three-time America East All-Academic selection, Everett graduated with a 3.72 undergraduate GPA in chemical engineering and is currently pursuing a master's in Engineering Management, boasting an impressive 3.80 GPA in his graduate studies.

A fierce competitor, Everett has played a pivotal role in the River Hawks' three consecutive America East title runs. This season, Everett clocked in second overall to not only help the team hoist the trophy once more but also earn first-team All-Conference honors.

The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East sponsored in the fall season including men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a projected starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.

Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
