EDMONTON, Alberta—UMass Lowell hockey forward Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden) signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers beginning with the 2023-24 season on Wednesday morning, as announced by the organization.

Signing as an undrafted free agent, Berglund will begin his professional career in Bakersfield, Calif., with the Oilers' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

"We are really excited to learn Carl is signing with Edmonton. He has been nothing short of terrific during his time here. From the time he set foot on campus, he has been an offensive catalyst while being a great teammate," commented Head Coach Norm Bazin. "He grew as a person and as a player and saved his best two-way play for his senior year as one of our two captains. We wish him well as he starts his professional career."

A captain of the 2022-23 squad, Berglund has been a scoring sensation during his time in the Mill City. In his 114 appearances for the River Hawks, Berglund amassed 36 goals and 53 assists for 89 career points. Berglund's accuracy on attack made him a versatile skater for UMass Lowell, serving as a regular on the team's power play during his tenure.

A student in the Manning School of Business, Berglund was also a role model in the classroom for the River Hawks. A three-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection, Berglund was one of six UMass Lowell skaters tabbed to the AHCA All-Academic Scholars list during his junior campaign.
