LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) tallied three goals as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-1) took down the Sacred Heart Pioneers (0-3), 12-7, on Saturday afternoon.

Behind Liquori, seniors Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.) and Abby McLaughlin (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) each recorded two goals. Sophomore Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) chipped in with a goal and two assists, while junior Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) and freshman Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) each found the back of the net once. In net, freshman Hannah Shaddock (Corning, N.Y.) made seven saves for a .500 save percentage.

"This is a team we struggled with last year, we struggled clearing the ball," said head coach Lisa Miller. "I thought we had spurts where we played really, really well, and then we got a little loose and relaxed and the ball flew all over the place. Happy to get the win but I think we have to clean that up going forward."

The game proved to be a defensive battle early, as the two teams combined for only two shots in the opening seven minutes. After the back-and-forth battle, the Pioneers struck first, finding the back of the net with 7:52 on the clock to take the early lead. Minutes later, after a foul on Sacred Heart, Liquori took advantage of the free position opportunity and fired a shot past the keeper, knotting the game up 1-1. Following a visitor's goal, the River Hawks offense took over, scoring twice in the final two minutes of the quarter, highlighted by Shultz's first collegiate goal, to own a 3-2 advantage.

The River Hawk offense continued to dominate to open the second, putting together a 4-0 scoring stretch in six minutes to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Pioneers, however, responded quickly, getting back on the board with 7:46 to go in the first half. The two teams proceeded to lock down on defense, with Sacred Heart tallying the lone goal, setting up a 7-4 score at the break.

In the third period, the River Hawks' defense played nearly perfect, allowing one goal on only four shots. On the offensive side, the hosts continued to impress the fans, stringing together a three-goal burst over a three-minute stretch, capped off by two straight from Hansen, to jump ahead by six. Although the visitors pulled back within five, Shaw snuck a shot past the keeper in the final seconds to give her team an 11-5 lead entering the final period.

In the final quarter, UMass Lowell dominated possession, preventing Sacred Heart from attempting a comeback. With 7:07 on the clock, Liquori bolted past the visitors' defense and launched a shot into the net to complete her second hat trick of the season. Although the Pioneers added two more goals, they were unable to mount a comeback, sealing the 12-7 final.

Next up, the River Hawks welcome Quinnipiac to town on Wednesday, March 1. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
