River Hawks' Offense Explodes In 21-10 Victory Over Stonehill

NORTH EASTON, Mass. – Junior Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) tallied a personal best five goals, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-1) took down the Stonehill Skyhawks (0-2), 21-10, on Wednesday night.

Tallying her 82nd and 83rd career goal in the first quarter, senior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) surpassed Taylor Sokol to become the River Hawks' All-Time Goals Leader. Alongside Brockbank, senior Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.), sophomore Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.), and freshman Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) all recorded a hattrick in the match. In net, freshman Hannah Shaddock (Corning, N.Y.) made seven saves for a .412 save percentage.

"It was a great team win against a competitive team that plays like a program accustomed to winning," said head coach Lisa Miller. "The defense continues to impress, many newcomers scored their first points in a River Hawk uniform, and Izzy moved in to first place on the program's all time goal scoring list. It was a good day."

Stonehill came out of the gates firing, scoring three of the first four goals in under four minutes. However, UMass Lowell quickly shifted the momentum in their favor as Audra Hansen fired a shot past the goaltender for her first career goal. The goal by Hansen ignited an offensive explosion for the visitors, as the River Hawks went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by Liquori's record-setting goal, to take a commanding 8-3 lead. The Skyhawks added one more in the final seconds to cut the lead down to four after one quarter.

In the second quarter, the River Hawks' defense was nearly flawless, allowing only one goal over the 15 minutes of play. Offensively, freshman Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) tallied her first collegiate goal, Audra Hansen chipped in two more goals to complete her first hat trick and seniors Anna Bauter (Dexter, N.Y.) and Grace Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) each scored once to put UMass Lowell up 13-5 heading into the break.

Catlin opened the River Hawks' second-half scoring early with her second of the game just over a minute in. Following a fourth goal from Brockbank, the Skyhawks retaliated, scoring two of the next three goals to cut the lead down to 16-7. The River Hawks, however, continued to play aggressively, tallying three more goals to pull ahead by twelve with 15 minutes to play.

In the final quarter, redshirt freshman Megan Milkowich (Watertown, N.Y.) and freshmen Mia Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y.) both found the back of the net for their first collegiate goals while freshman Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tallied her first point on an assist. Although the Skyhawks continued to battle, outscoring the River Hawks 3-2, the lead proved to be too large to overcome, sealing the 21-10 final.

Next up, the River Hawks return home to take on Sacred Heart on Saturday, February 25. The game is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
