Friday v. Massachusetts: Live Stats | Watch

LOWELL, Mass.—The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-1) hosts Massachusetts (1-0) this Friday, February 17, for a matinee matchup in the friendly confines of Cushing Field. Opening faceoff for the non-conference tilt is set for 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the River Hawks suffered a 21-12 setback at the hands of Quinnipiac to open the season on the road. Junior Garrett Murphy exploded offensively with his first collegiate hat trick and two assists for a team-best five points. Junior Curtis Redd came in just behind his classmate Murphy with three points thanks to his first collegiate goal and a pair of helpers. Four River Hawks ended the outing with two points a pop: Jackson Dean, Sean Parker, Khairi Sears, and Jake Davis. Dean was also one of two freshmen to put up their first collegiate points. Freshman attacker Ben Roberts also snagged the first goal of his career to end up with one goal on three shots on goal. Defensively, Henry De Tolla and Ryan Quinlan put up a team-best two caused turnovers each. Quinlan also scooped up a team-high four ground balls to De Tolla's three. At the X, freshman Devin German made his debut, winning eight of his 16 attempts to finish with a .500 faceoff percentage. In the cage, freshman Luke Renaud made his debut, making eight saves on 44 shots faced.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Seven River Hawks have found themselves in the point column after one game. Junior Garrett Murphy leads the charge with five points off three goals and two assists. Next up, Curtis Redd is holding steady in second place with one goal and two helpers for three points. In the goal column, Murphy's three puts him atop the leaderboard, followed by Jackson Dean, Sean Parker and Khairi Sears with two goals each. Ryan Quinlan leads the way in ground balls with four in his first game. He is also tied with Henry De Tolla with two caused turnovers in their first outing.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
Last weekend, the Minutemen picked up their first win of the season with a 10-8 decision over Army West Point at home. Senior Carter Castillo led the way with his first-ever hat trick to end the day with three points. Redshirt Sophomore Shane O'Leary (2G), graduate student Gabriel Procyk (2A) and junior Dillon Arrant (1G, 1A) were next in points with two each. Matt Knote got the nod in the cage, making 19 saves and allowing just eight goals to pick up the win.

A WIN WOULD
A win against the Minutemen would mark a program first for the River Hawks since reinstating the program. A win would push UMass Lowell to a 1-1 start, marking their best start since the 2020 season. It would also mark the first win for Head Coach Drew Kelleher since taking over at the helm for the River Hawks last summer.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Heading into this weekend, the River Hawks are 0-5 against the Minutemen. A win would mark a first for the program and snap the losing skid.

UP NEXT
The River Hawks head out to Loudonville, N.Y. next Saturday, Feb. 25, for a tilt against Siena. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
