LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter the championship game after knocking off the top-seeded Binghamton Bearcats 2-1 in extra time on Thursday night in Vestal. Binghamton opened the scoring in the 2
nd minute to take an early lead.
Julia Edholm scored the equalizer in the 69
th minute before
Hope Santaniello scored the go-ahead goal in the 102
nd minute to give UMass Lowell the lead.
Taylor Burgess made an incredible stop from a close-range shot with 47 seconds to play to secure the win for UMass Lowell. The River Hawks return to the championship for the first time since the 2018 final.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine punched its ticket to the championship game with a 2-1 win over #6 Vermont on Thursday night. The America East Striker of the Year, Abby Kraemer, scored two goals, including the game-winning-goal with 29 seconds left, to lift the Black Bears over the Catamounts.
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell is 4-6-1 against Maine since 2013. The teams met earlier this season in Lowell where the River Hawks claimed a 2-0 victory behind goals from
Laura Cetina and
Chloe Layne.
POSTSEASON HISTORY
Sunday's championship game will be the first time these teams have met in the America East Tournament. This is Maine's first championship appearance and the second visit to the final for UMass Lowell.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Julia Edholm has scored three goals in two postseason games this year and leads the team with six goals on the year.
Calliste Brookshire and
Chloe Layne have four goals each and Brookshire leads the team seven assists and 15 points.
Taylor Burgess has been fantastic between the posts this season, making 79 saves in 17 appearances. Burgess has a 5-5-7 record this season.
