River Hawks Set to Travel to CCSU and Fordham

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (0-4) will travel to New Britain, Connecticut to take on the Central Connecticut Blue Devils (0-4) on Tuesday night. Following the holiday, the River Hawks will visit the Fordham Rams (2-2) for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks fell to 0-4 on the season after dropping the home opener against Le Moyne on Saturday afternoon. UMass Lowell had the lead for majority of the game, but the Dolphins stormed back to win 63-61 with a layup in the final seconds of the game. The River Hawks will look to pick up the first win of the season on the road at Central Connecticut, a team they have beaten in three straight contests. Mili Carrera is averaging 11.0 points per game to lead the River Hawks while Sydney Watkins leads the team in assists, steals and rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Central Connecticut is searching for its first win of the season after an 0-4 start. The Blue Devils fell to Saint Peter's (61-57) and Bryant (72-69) last week. Belle Lampher has a team-high 60 points through four games to go with 10 steals. Meghan Kenefick has grabbed 28 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils while two players are tied with three blocks. Tuesday night will be the home opener for Central Connecticut after opening the season on a four-game road trip.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham is 2-2 to start the season with wins over Adelphi and UAlbany. The Rams have fallen to Miami and Manhattan in the last two games to sit a .500. Emy Hayford and Taylor Donaldson are averaging double figures this season with 14.0 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. Aminata Ly averages 6.8 rebounds a game to lead the Rams. As a unit, Fordham is shooting 37% from the field and 22% from three. The Rams are 62% from the free throw line and have a 2.5 rebounding margin through four games.
 
INSTANT IMPACT
Sydney Watkins has stepped into a leadership role in her first season with the River Hawks and has been a key figure right from the start. The redshirt junior is averaging 9.3 points and 7.8 rebounds through four games and has made big shots this season. All five freshman have seen time on the floor already this season and have all contributed. Abbey Lindsey, Gabby Ross, Maddie Rice and Cire Worley have given the River Hawks a solid guard rotation while Rayne Durant has been big in the paint, tallying seven blocks so far.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would be the first victory of the season for the River Hawks.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Mili Carrera leads the River Hawks averaging 11.0 points per game while Sydney Watkins is leading the way with an average of 7.8 rebounds per game and 31 total rebounds. Watkins leads the team with 15 steals on the season and 13 assists. Rayne Durant has a team-high seven blocks this season.
