LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Drew Kelleher has officially announced his leadership core for the upcoming season, naming seniors
Ben Greco (Franklin, Mass.),
Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.), and
Curtis Redd (Amherst, N.H.) as his 2024 captains. For all three, it marks the first time in their collegiate careers that they have earned the title of captain.
"I'm thrilled to announce Garrett, Ben, and Curtis as our captains this year," said Kelleher. "All three of these guys have been terrific this fall as we look to take a step forward. Their buy in and leadership were recognized by their teammates, and I know they will represent our program the right way!"
Greco, who has proven to be a vital member of the UMass Lowell program, has appeared in 24 of the team's 26 games the past two years. During his sophomore season, the Massachusetts native had a massive impact on the defense, finishing third on the squad with eight caused turnovers, a personal-best.
A leader for the River Hawks both on and off the field, Murphy enters his fourth year at UMass Lowell. The midfielder started the 2023 season strong, posting a career-best five points off three goals and two assists against Quinnipiac. Only two appearances later, he followed up with another strong performance, finding the back of the net twice while adding an assist for three points.
Following a breakout season in his junior year, Redd will look to continue to build off his success from the 2022 season. Appearing in all 13 games for the River Hawks, including six starts, the New Hampshire native ranked third on the team in assists (6), sixth in goals (6), and sixth on the team in total points (12). The midfielder also contributed defensively, adding three caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
