No. 4 River Hawks Visit No. 1 Binghamton in America East Semifinal

LOWELL, Mass. – After defeating the #5 NJIT Highlanders on Monday night, the #4 UMass Lowell women's soccer team (4-5-7, 3-2-3 AE) will head to Vestal, N.Y. to take on the top-seeded Binghamton Bearcats (6-4-6, 5-0-3 AE) in the America East Semifinal match. Kickoff is set for 6:07 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks advanced to the semifinal match after defeating the #5 NJIT Highlanders 3-1 at Cushing Field on Monday night. Julia Edholm's brace and Chloe Layne's fourth goal of the season powered UMass Lowell to a dominant win while Taylor Burgess made five saves between the posts. Calliste Brookshire tallied two assists on the night and Franzisca Sinclair tallied her first collegiate point with an assist on Edholm's second goal. The win marks the River Hawks' first America East Tournament victory since 2018 and the team's third semifinal appearance in the last four years.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton earned the top seed in the tournament with a 5-0-3 mark in conference play and will host the semifinal match at the Bearcat Sports Complex. Olivia McKnight leads the team with four goals and five assists for 13 points this season while three other players have tallied four goals each. McKnight leads the league with six assists on the year and sits tied for fifth in game-winning-goals (2) and points (14). Kaitlyn Williams has started all 16 contests in goal and has made 75 saves with a 6-4-6 record.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
These sides met earlier in the season at Cushing Field on October 8. The Bearcats came away with a 2-0 victory despite the River Hawks outshooting Binghamton 19 (7) to 9 (5). UMass Lowell also had a 9-1 corner kick advantage. UMass Lowell is 3-7-1 against Binghamton since 2013 with the last victory coming in the 2021 season.
 
POSTSEASON HISTORY
UMass Lowell and Binghamton met in the America East Tournament in the spring of 2021 where the Bearcats came away with a 1-0 victory. 
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Calliste Brookshire added to her scoring tally in Monday's win over NJIT with two assists to bring her to six on the year. She also leads the team with 14 points through 16 games and leads the team with 47 shots and 22 shots on goal. Julia Edholm's five goals this season, including two against NJIT in the quarterfinal match, leads the squad. Taylor Burgess has started all 16 games and has made 74 saves on the year.
