River Hawks Name Captains for 2024 Season

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Lisa Miller has officially announced her five captains for the upcoming season, naming graduate students Caroline Klim (Wrentham, Mass.), Julia Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.), seniors Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.), Emerson Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.), and junior Elsa Skinner (Annapolis, Md.) as her leadership core for the 2024 season.

"Caroline, Julia, Megan, Emme and Elsa inspire the group to work hard every day, compete in the drills, and prepare for games diligently. They represent Mill City grit and the long-term values, goals and behaviors of a River Hawk program striving for an America East Championship. They also bring an element of fun and welcome to every practice, lift and event. A perfect group for our next step forward."
 
Klim, who started in all 16 games for the River Hawks last year, finished second on the team with 34 ground balls collected, a new personal high and the seventh best in program history. During her impressive 2023 campaign, the Massachusetts native added 17 caused turnovers, which was good for fourth on the team.
 
Entering her fifth season as a River Hawk, Napolitano had a record-breaking 2023 season, causing 26 turnovers, topping the previous program record. Alongside the caused turnovers, she also led the team in ground balls (46) and draw controls (49). At the end of the season, she was named to the 2023 America East All-Conference Second Team, becoming only the fourth River Hawks to earn that honor.
 
Brockbank, entering her third straight season as a captain, was a vital member of the attack unit during the 2023 season, tallying 24 goals to rank third on the team. Appearing in all 16 games for the River Hawks, the New York native totaled 11 assists for a total of 35 points, both ranking second on the squad.
 
With a breakout season in her junior year, Laundry proved to be a key piece of the defensive unit. Starting in all 15 games she appeared in for the River Hawks, she ranked third on the team in ground balls (24) and second in caused turnovers (23).  the defensive numbers, she also had 49 draw controls, ranking sixth in single-season program history.
 
The red-shirted Skinner enters her second season as a River Hawk after quickly establishing herself as key leader on and off the field. Skinner projects to be the long-term cornerstone of the defense. Prior to coming to Lowell, the Maryland native was a member of the Anne Arundel Community College women's lacrosse team, where she made the All-Tournament team and was named an NJCAA All-American. She was also honored with the Louis L. Siegert award which is given to the most outstanding female student-athlete.
