Crasa Named Hockey East Player of the Week

10/23/2023 11:15:00 AM

AMESBURY, Mass. – After an impressive weekend series at Colgate, junior Matt Crasa (South Setauket, N.Y.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

The forward had a monster two-game set, scoring all four of the team's goals in a 4-2 victory on Friday, then coming back the next night and adding an assist to help the River Hawks earn a 5-2 win and series sweep. He finished the weekend with five total points (4g, 1a), giving him seven thus far on the season (6g, 1a), after scoring two goals in the season opener on October 7.

Crasa is the first River Hawk to score four goals in a game since October 29, 2004, when Ben Walter did it in a matchup at RPI, and the first with three or more in a game since 2016. The performance moved him to second in the nation in goals per game (1.50) and he is now tied for second with his six goals. His seven points are tied for the team lead, while his +5 rating ranks him tied for second among River Hawks through the first four games.

The weekly nod marks the second of Crasa's career and the first of the season for the River Hawks. He was also named River Hawk of the week on Monday for his efforts.
