10/13/2023 1:00:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell women's basketball head coach Denise King has announced the addition of Jonathan Parsons to her coaching staff. Parsons will serve as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the River Hawks.

"I am happy to have Jon join our staff; not only is he familiar with the league but I have always appreciated his work ethic and ability to build connections on the recruiting trail," said King. "He is a great addition to our family and has hit the ground running!"

Jonathan Parsons joins the UMass Lowell staff after nine seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the Bryant women's basketball program. While with the Bulldogs, Parsons assisted the head coach in on-court coaching, practice planning, recruiting, scouting, academic monitoring, player development and elite camp organization.

"I am so excited to be part of the River Hawk Family! I'd like to thank Coach King for presenting me with this unbelievable chance to join her staff and work with the amazing student-athletes we have in our program," said Parsons. "Coach King's experience, knowledge of the game, and her recruiting ties throughout the country make this an incredible opportunity. The future is bright for UMass Lowell women's basketball, and I can't wait to help continue to build the program under her leadership."

Parsons has had plenty of success in his time in Rhode Island, helping the team transition to the America East Conference and appearing in the tournament quarterfinals for the first time in the 2022-23 season. Parsons has also helped the Bulldogs reach the Northeast Conference Tournament Final games in the 2021-22 and 2016-17 seasons and claim the 2014-15 regular season title with a 22-9 overall record and 14-4 mark in conference play.

Additionally, Parsons helped Bryant reach seven NEC tournaments with three semifinal appearances and two championship game appearances in eight years.

Parsons also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs, recruiting four all-rookie team selections and coaching 20 All-NEC selections, including NEC Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year selections. He also recruited and coached six of Bryant's top 10 all-time Division I scoring leaders, including four 1,000-point scorers.

Prior to his time at Bryant, Parsons spent five years as an assistant coach at Brown, where he served as the defensive coordinator. He helped the team to its best five-year record in over a decade as well as earning a WBCA Honor Roll selection with a team GPA of 3.5 in 2013. While with Brown, he recruited and developed four 1,000-point scorers and nine Ivy League all-conference selections.

Parsons spent one season as an assistant coach at the University of New Haven, helping the team reach the NE-10 tournament quarterfinals for the first time in school history and developing third team all-league and all-rookie selections.

He earned a B.S. in sports management and finance from Sacred Heart University while also serving as the men's basketball team manager before earning a M.S. in management of sports industries from the University of New Haven.
