Two River Hawks Break Personal-Bests at Terrier Classic

BOSTON, Mass. – Some members of the UMass Lowell women's track and field team competed on Saturday in the second day of Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic, collecting some impressive marks. 

Sophomore Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) broke her personal record in the 5,000 meter run by over 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 16:52.94 and an 11th place finish. She was the lone River Hawk to compete in the 5,000 meter run. 

More success was found in the 3,000 meter run, as senior Kenzie Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) also broke her personal record and finished in 10th place out of 107 finishers with a time of 9:14.24. Graduate student Emily Sessa (Tewksbury, Mass.) also competed in the 3,000 meter run, clocking in at 9:23.65 and earning 19th place.

"Kenzie and Emily had outstanding efforts in the 3k," said head coach Gary Gardner. "It was great to see them running well." 

Graduate student Izzy Giesing (Bradford, Vt.) also competed on Saturday, finishing in 11th place out of 94 in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.69. 

Next up, the River Hawks will travel to Boston University on February 2 and 3 to compete in the Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational.
