River Hawks Announce 12 Newcomers to 2023 Roster

LOWELL, Mass. – Head Coach Lisa Miller has announced the addition of 12 newcomers to the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse roster for the upcoming 2023 campaign.
 
"I'm looking forward to this group playing this year and in years to come," said head coach Lisa Miller. "The class is balanced, hardworking, skilled, and learning every day. They compete and are thoughtful with the way they approach the game."
 
The incoming class features attackers Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) and Mia Mitchell (Akwesasne, N.Y.); midfielders Mila Pekar (Bethesda, Md.), Samantha Morry (Mashpee, Mass.), Audra Hansen (Stamford, Conn.), Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.), McKenzie Baker (Franklin, Mass.), Rachel Stax (Milton, Ga.), and Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba); defenders Caitlin Baker (Brighton, N.Y.) and Elsa Skinner (Annapolis, Md.); and goalkeeper Hannah Shaddock (Corning, N.Y.).
 
#00 – Hannah Shaddock
Hometown/High School: Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post
Position: Goalkeeper
Height: 5-8
Major: Political Science
 
High School: Played lacrosse at Corning Painted-Post High School … member of the Lake Effect Storm Elite club team … named to her first all-star team her senior year as well as was a Brine National Champion … awarded with the Nike Cup MVP, Nike Cup Leadership Award, and Marine Corp Leadership Award her freshman season … honor student all four years of high school.
 
Personal: Daughter of Megan and Jason … has two siblings (Liam and Katie) … names The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and The Office as her favorite TV shows … says her favorite sports moment was winning the National Cup with her travel team … chose UMass Lowell because of the team environment, the amazing campus, great coaches, and it having a lot of potential.
 
#7 – Caitlin Baker
Hometown/High School: Brighton, N.Y./Brighton
Position: Defense
Height: 5-7
Major: Business Administration
 
High School: Played lacrosse at Brighton High School … member of the Monster Elite Lacrosse club team … was the leading defender on her team in both her senior and junior year … named team captain her senior year … honor student all four years.
 
Personal: Daughter of Molly and Stuart … has a sister named Rory and brother named Robbie … named Outer Banks and Stanger Things as her favorite television shows … lists the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Michigan football and Aurapro women's lacrosse as her favorite professional sports teams … says she chose UMass Lowell because of the combination of excellent academics and business program all while having the chance to play at the highest collegiate level for the sport she loves.
 
#8 – Mila Pekar
Hometown/High School: Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-2
Major: Criminal Justice
 
High School: Played lacrosse, field hockey, and ran track & field at Walter Johnson High School … member of the Rebels club team … selected First-Team All-County Midfield her junior and senior year … member of the Under Armour 150 in 2019 … was selected to American Select DC/VA regional team.
 
Personal: Daughter of Margaret Pekar … outside of lacrosse she enjoys snowboarding and surfing … names Gilmore Girls, The OC, and Love Island as her favorite TV shows … her favorite professional sports teams are the Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins … chose to attend UMass Lowell because she felt like she really got along with the people at the school, and the campus was exactly what she was looking for.
 
#12 – Samantha Morry
Hometown/High School: Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-7
Major: Nursing
 
High School: Played lacrosse and soccer at Mashpee High School … member of the Boston Aces club team … named team captain and an Eastern Massachusetts Associate All-Star both her junior and senior year … named a South Shore League All-Star her senior junior and freshman year … member of the National Honor Society, President of the National Technical Honor Society, and Vice President of the National Math Honor Society.

Personal: Daughter to Sarah and Bryan … has two older siblings (Alex and Ella) … lists her favorite hobbies as reading, walks on the beach, hiking, and hanging out with friends and family … says her favorite TV shows are Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill … names the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins as her favorite professional sports teams … chose to attend UMass Lowell as it was a great option for her for both nursing and lacrosse, and she loved the size of the campus and the number of people attending the university.
 
#15 – Elsa Skinner

Position: Defense
Height: 5-7
Major: History
 
AT ANNE ARUNDEL COMMUNITY COLLEGE (2021-22): Started in all 10 games for Anne Arundel … totaled 31 goals and seven assists for 38 total points … named an NJCAA All-American … honored with the Louis L. Siegert award which is given to the most outstanding female student-athlete … made the All-Tournament team and the Dean's list.
 
High School: Member of the field hockey and lacrosse teams at Annapolis High School … played for the Maryland United club team … named the captain for the varsity field hockey and lacrosse team her senior year … named the JV field hockey MVP her sophomore year … member of the National Honor Society … named to the honor roll all four years.
 
Personal: Daughter to Natasha and David … has four siblings (Evan, Olivia, Amelia, and Audrey) … lists The Office as her favorite TV show … names the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles as her favorite professional sports teams … says her greatest sports moment was being able to play with her little sister her senior year of high school … chose UMass Lowell because it is a great growing program with a lot of opportunity, as well as has great coaches and players.
 
#18 – Grace Lydon
Hometown/High School: Rowley, Mass./Central Catholic
Position: Attack
Height: 5-4
Major: Psychology
 
High School: Played soccer, indoor track, and lacrosse at Central Catholic High School… Captain of the lacrosse team her senior year… selected first-team all-conference for lacrosse and team MVP her senior year… graduated with the Best Female Student-Athlete award and Eagle Tribune all-star in lacrosse.  

Personal: Daughter of Amy and Kevin Lydon… has one sibling (Jake)… her favorite TV shows are The Office and Gilmore Girls… her favorite professional sports teams are the Patriots and Bruins… says her favorite sports figure is Alex Morgan… chose UMass Lowell as it had her major and was close to home, it felt like a community. 
 
#19 – Audra Hansen
Hometown/High School: Stamford, Conn./Westhill
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-10
Major: Environmental Science

High School: Played soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at Westhill High School… captain of the lacrosse team her senior year… scored over 100 goals and lead her team to their second-ever state game in team history… She received the FCIAC Exemplary Scholar-Athlete award and Female Athlete of the Year award… awarded Team MVP in lacrosse senior year… she was a part of the National Honor Society. 

Personal: Daughter of Lisa and Peter Hansen… has three siblings (Jake, Grace, and Anna) … her favorite TV shows are Modern Family and Psych… her favorite professional sports team is the New York Jets… says her favorite sports influencer is Simone Biles… chose UMass Lowell for her major which is environmental science with a focus on sustainability and for the women's lacrosse program.  
 
#21 – Macy Shultz
Hometown/High School: Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-6
Major: Exercise Science

High School: Played soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at South Jefferson High School… captain of the lacrosse team her senior year… selected All-American, All-CNY, All-North MVP, and Frontier All-Star… She was a part of the National Honor Society and graduated with Honors.  

Personal: Daughter of Jessica and Mark Shultz… has one sibling (Mindy) … her favorite TV show is Grey's Anatomy… her favorite professional sports teams are the New York Yankees and San Francisco 49ers… says her favorite sports figures are Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu… chose UMass Lowell because it was a good academic fit and for the lacrosse team culture.

Hometown/High School: Franklin, Mass./Franklin
Position: Midfield
Height: 5-7
Major: Exercise Science


High School: Played lacrosse and field hockey at Franklin High School … member of the Gold Star club team … named captain of the lacrosse team her senior year … selected as an All-American, Boston Herald All-Scholastic, and to the Hockomock All-Star team … named MVP her junior year.
 
Personal: Daughter to Leeanne and Chris Baker … has one sibling (Flynn) … names some of her favorite hobbies as going to the beach and hanging out with friends … her favorite TV shows are The Bachelor and Keeping Up with the Kardashians … names her favorite sports figures as Julian Edelman, Tom Brady, and Rudy Ruettiger … she chose to attend UMass Lowell because she loves the atmosphere of the school and the players on the team made it so easy to want to be a part of the program.

High School: Played lacrosse at IMG Academy… member of the Atlanta Storm club team … winner of the Absolute Integrity award her senior year … honored with the Bill Bjorness award her junior year … member of the American Select Lacrosse Team Georgia/Colorado her junior year … named to the Under Armour 150 her sophomore year.
 
Personal: Daughter to Kathryn and William … has one older sibling (William) … names traveling, photography, and interior design as some of her hobbies … says her favorite type of television show is reality TV … lists the Tampa Bay Lightning as her favorite professional sports team and Simone Biles as her favorite sports figure … chose to attend UMass Lowell for the lacrosse program.

High School: Played hockey, lacrosse, basketball, field hockey, and golf at River East Collegiate … member of the Winnipeg Gryphons club team … named the MVP in lacrosse her senior year and MVP in hockey her sophomore year … named the Athlete of the Year her senior, sophomore, and freshman year … named rookie of the year her freshman year.
