LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks fell to 0-5 in conference play after dropping a hard-fought home contest to Binghamton on January 14.
Jaliena Sanchez scored a career-high 24 points to lead all scorers and added four assists.
Ivory Finley added 13 points, shooting 3-6 from distance.
Amaya Dowdy continued to be an impressive figure for the River Hawks, scoring 10 points and adding a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks on the afternoon.
Tasha Lima scored her first collegiate points against the Bearcats, finishing with four on the afternoon and two steals.
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
After a 3-9 non-conference slate, UMBC holds a 3-2 record in America East and is in a four-way tie for third place in the conference. The Retrievers have victories over Binghamton, Vermont and Bryant and losses to UAlbany and Maine this season. KK White leads the team averaging 11.1 points per game. Kiara Bell has a team-high 31 steals and 22 blocks through 16 games this season. Laycee Drake has dished out a team-high 39 assists in 16 starts this year. As a unit, the Retrievers are shooting 39% from the field and 28% from behind the arc.
A WIN WOULD
A win would be an 11th win over UMBC in program history. A win would also be the first conference win of the season for the River Hawks.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Ivory Finley leads the River Hawks averaging 9.3 points per game this season. The sophomore has scored a team-high 140 points through 15 games.
Amaya Dowdy has been a force in the paint all season, totaling 28 blocks to lead the team and the conference, averaging 1.9 per game. Dowdy also is shooting 43% from the field to lead the River Hawks.
Jaliena Sanchez has been the main distributor for UMass Lowell, dishing out 54 assists this year.
Kaylen Banwareesingh is just shy of 100 rebounds on the year, totaling 98 boards through 13 games to lead the team.
Jaini Edmonds has been clutch from the free throw line, hitting 18 of 21 for a team-high 86%.
