River Hawks Set to Host Binghamton on Saturday Afternoon

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (1-13, 0-4 AE) returns to Lowell to play host to the Binghamton Bearcats (9-8, 2-2 AE) on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks fell to 0-4 in conference play after dropping a 42-37 road contest to Vermont on January 11. Jaini Edmonds led the team with 14 points and shot 4-8 from distance. Amaya Dowdy scored five and tallied a team-high 10 rebounds and four blocks on the afternoon. Jaliena Sanchez had four assists and six points. The River Hawks are searching for their first conference win of the season and first victory since December 7 against CCSU. UMass Lowell has won two of the last three meetings at home.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Binghamton holds a 2-2 mark in America East play after falling to NJIT on January 11, 62-57. The Bearcats have won games against Bryant and UNH and lost to UMBC earlier this season. Three players are averaging double figures with Denai Bowman leading the way with 11.9 points per game. Ella Wanzer and Genevieve Coleman both average over 10 points per game as well. Binghamton shares the ball well, tallying 225 assists as a unit this year. Jadyn Weltz has a team-high 62 assists while Bowman has dished out 59 of her own. Bowman also leads the team with 19 blocks through 17 games.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would be an 8th win over Binghamton in program history. A win would also be the first conference win of the season for the River Hawks.  
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Jaini Edmonds averages a team-high 9.4 points per game through 14 contests this season. She is also shooting 37% from distance with 22 made threes to lead the River Hawks. Jaliena Sanchez has been active defensively and registered 20 steals. The senior has also shared the ball plenty this year, with a team-high 50 assists. Amaya Dowdy has seen action in all 14 games and tallied 25 blocks on the year. The sophomore recorded four blocks against Vermont last time out. Dowdy has been efficient from the field as well, shooting 44% to lead the team. Jaini Edmonds remains the River Hawks' top free throw shooter, shooting 95% from the line this season.
 
WATCH THOSE HANDS
Through 14 games this season, UMass Lowell has tallied 98 steals. Jaliena Sanchez leads the team with 20 while Ivory Finley has tallied 19. Mili Carrera has 11 and Kaylen Banwareesingh, Ella Ner and Jaini Edmonds have 10 each. As a unit, UMass Lowell had a season-best 14 steals against Boston University.
 
CONFERENCE RANKS
The River Hawks rank second in the conference in blocks per game with 3.7 through fourteen games. Amaya Dowdy leads the league averaging 1.8 blocks per game. Ivory Finley sits fourth in the league in free throw percentage shooting 78% from the charity stripe. As a unit, UMass Lowell is first in the conference shooting 75% from the line. The team also is fourth in the league with 7.2 steals per game. 
 
FREE THROWS
UMass Lowell is 75% from the free throw line as a unit and second in the league. Jaliena Sanchez has made 34 of her 45 attempts and Ivory Finley is 40-51. Jaini Edmonds is near perfect from the stripe at 18-19 and Amaya Dowdy is 19-27 this season.
