BOSTON—The UMass Lowell cross country program excelled on the course Friday afternoon, turning in impressive individual performances at the 2022 Coast-to-Coast Invitational hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park.

Testing the water, graduate student Izzy Giesing (Bradford, Vt.) turned in a solid tenth-place finish in her first test of the season. Clocking in at 17:35, Giesing shook off the dust to pace the River Hawk women's squad.

"It was an excellent opener for Izzy. She was rolling by people the last 1,000 meters of the race," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It's very encouraging for the rest of the season."

Several River Hawks earned the nod on Friday morning as they tackled the men's and women's Open 5K event. Pacing the crew of six, junior Henry Farrington (Essex Junction, Vt.) put up a career-best performance in Beantown with a 15:42.2 time to take fourth overall.

"Henry is getting better week-to-week," remarked Gardner. "He's going to be a factor for the team this year."

Senior Samuel Toolin (North Kingstown, R.I.) was next across the finish line for the River Hawks. The upperclassman went above and beyond in his first collegiate attempt at the 5K with a tenth-place time of 15:54.00.

Up next, UMass Lowell travels to Bethlehem, Pa., for the 2022 Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 30.
