LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team is set for a pair of matchups during the Labor Day weekend. The squad will first travel to Amherst for a Kennedy Cup battle against Massachusetts on Friday, September 2 at 3 p.m. before welcoming Wagner to Wicked Blue Field on Monday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.

RIVER HAWK REWIND
The River Hawks are currently 1-1 through the first week of the 2022 season after battling to a 2-0 setback at No. 15 UConn and defeating LIU, 3-0, in the team's home opener two days later.

KENNEDY CUP
Friday's matchup will mark the field hockey installment of the 2022-23 Kennedy Cup Challenge between UMass Lowell and Massachusetts. The Kennedy Cup Challenge was established in the fall of 2018 and will be awarded annually to the university with the most wins in the cumulative season series between teams from UMass Lowell and UMass Amherst. With an 8-6 advantage across all sports, the River Hawks won the inaugural challenge. The Minutemen earned a 10-8 decision last year in 2021-22. John Kennedy, a longtime supporter of both athletic programs, holds degrees from both institutions, Lowell Technological Institute ('70) and UMass Amherst ('76), with degrees in Mathematics (BS) and Accounting (MS), respectively.

STARTING STRONG
The decision against LIU marked the River Hawks' fifth consecutive shutout in a home opener. It was also the team's sixth straight win in its opener at Wicked Blue.

SHUTTING OUT THE OPPOSITION
With the shutout against LIU,
Eleonore Boekhorst now owns 10 career blank sheets. She holds the program's Division I records for shutouts as a goalkeeper.

HELPING HANDS
Jenna Berger currently boasts 18 career assists. She needs just one more to tie the program's Division I record for helpers first set by Christa Doiron (2014-17).

A WIN WOULD
A win against Massachusetts on Friday would mark the first victory for the River Hawks in the series between the sister schools. A win against Wager on Monday would give UMass Lowell a 2-0 edge in that series.
