River Hawks Welcome Back Taylor O’Regan

8/7/2022 12:40:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. - UMass Lowell Field Hockey Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc has announced that Taylor O'Regan will rejoin her staff as an assistant coach for the 2022 season. O'Regan previously worked with the River Hawks in the same capacity for three seasons from 2018-2020. Most recently, she spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Boston University.

"We are super excited to welcome Taylor back to our staff," commented LeBlanc. "She brings an enormous amount of passion, energy and love for developing young women into strong players and people. Her coaching style is positive and demanding, which is exactly what our team thrives on. I know she will have a strong influence on the individual development of players and our program as a whole. She truly understands the culture of excellence our program strives for and we are so thankful to have her back with us for the season."

During her three seasons in Lowell, Blood recruited student-athletes from across the world, and assisted on all tactical and technical aspects while administering individual practice sessions to aid in skill development. She focused on working with the team's goalkeepers and strikers and also oversaw film breakdown, social media and team travel.

Previously, O'Regan served as an assistant coach at Merrimack in 2017-18, where she created practice plans, scouted opponents and planned all accommodations for road trips. She also assisted in recruiting efforts. Six team members garnered All-Conference nods during her season with the Warriors, including one Synapse Division II All-America selection.

O'Regan's coaching resume also included the Northeast Elite Field Hockey Club since 2016. In that position, she has coached various clinics, camps and training sessions with the program, which is ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

The Hampton Falls, N.H. native spent her collegiate tenure as a forward on the BU field hockey team. Helping to lead her team to back-to-back Patriot League Championships, she totaled 47 career points with 16 goals and 15 assists in 80 games played. She was named to the Patriot League All-Conference Team in 2015 and 2016, in addition to earning All-Region honors as a senior.

Continuing her playing career, O'Regan was named to the U.S. National Women's Development Team in January 2017. As part of this squad, she had the opportunity to compete internationally against the Chilean National Team in May 2018. She then competed internationally again in 2019 in the Netherlands against Belgium U21 and Scotland senior national teams and was selected to tour Scotland in 2020 before it was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

O'Regan graduated from BU with a bachelor's degree in health science in 2017.
