River Hawks Announce 2022-23 Schedule

6/7/2022 11:00:00 AM

LOWELL, Mass.—UMass Lowell Hockey Head Coach Norm Bazin officially revealed the team's schedule for the upcoming 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday. The 34-game slate opens with a three-game stretch on home ice highlighted by marquee non-conference matchups against St. Lawrence (Oct. 1) and Miami Ohio (Oct. 7-8).

"The 2022-23 season is fast approaching, and we are very excited about the field of non-conference opponents we were able to attract. There are teams from every major conference, which is exciting for us to get a feel for competition across the country. Miami Ohio, Michigan State and St. Lawrence are all teams we don't see that often," remarked Bazin. "The team will also have a rare opportunity to travel to Ireland for another matchup with quality opponents. This year will present many challenging obstacles which will make us stronger in the post season."

Coming off a stellar season that saw the team clinch its 14th NCAA Tournament berth, the River Hawks look ahead to a competitive non-conference schedule capped by a visit to Michigan State (Oct. 13-14) before diving headfirst into Hockey East action.

UMass Lowell gets its first taste of conference play on the road when the team heads to Boston for a single game against Northeastern (Oct. 22) before a home-and-home series against Boston University (Oct. 28-29) to end the month.

The crew returns to the Mill City to kick off an exciting November stretch with a pair of home games against Vermont (Nov. 4-5). After a weekend away from the ice, the squad will face off against Boston College on the road (Nov. 15) and UConn (Nov. 18-19) before embarking on a trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the 2022 Friendship Four. Making their second appearance in the tournament, the River Hawks faceoff against in-state foe and Kennedy Cup rivals Massachusetts (Nov. 25) in the opening round. They will then go on to face either Quinnipiac or Dartmouth on Saturday, November 26.

Returning stateside, UMass Lowell hits the road to take on familiar opponents in UMass (Dec. 3) and Dartmouth (Dec. 9) to close out the first half of the season.

The River Hawks come back from the holidays to ring in the New Year with a two-game home series against non-conference visitors Alaska Anchorage (Dec. 30-31). The team then heads out once again for a three-game road trip featuring tilts against AIC (Jan. 7) and Maine (Jan. 13-14).

After a home-and-home with New Hampshire the weekend of Jan. 20-21, the River Hawks stay close to home with a four-game stint at the Tsongas Center highlighted by contests against UMass (Jan. 27), BC (Feb. 3), UNH (Feb. 4) and Maine (Feb. 12).

The squad wraps up the regular season with games against Providence (Feb. 17-18), Merrimack (Feb. 24-25) and Northeastern (March 3-4).
