EUGENE, Ore.—
UMass Lowell men's track and field freshman Nate DeAngelo (Bristol, Conn.) returns to action this Saturday, June 25, as he heads west to compete in the 2022 USATF U20 Championships at Hayward Field.

The distance athlete is slated to take on the men's 3,000-meter race Saturday night. DeAngelo last tackled the event at the 2022 John Thomas Terrier Classic, when he set a personal best time of 8:14:27.

After a brief break following the conclusion of the 2022 outdoor campaign, DeAngelo returned to the Mill City and dove right back into training for this weekend's competition.

"After outdoor, I took a little time off. I started my summer training a little bit after I came back," commented DeAngelo. "Then, I just introduced workouts in a couple of weeks ago to get the speed back I lost over the break after outdoor."

The rookie runner spent his first season with the River Hawks gathering experience across the middle distance and distance disciplines. After careful consideration, DeAngelo's decision on entering the 3,000-meter came down to pace and a bit of personal preference.

"Based on my mile time and my 5,000-meter [time], the 3,000 meter is just a good in-between race for me, and I like the 3,000 meter a little bit more. It's more my speed right now," remarked DeAngelo.

With training the books, DeAngelo feels confident heading into Saturday. With the time change behind him, the freshman feels rested, healthy and primed for the big stage.

"I'm feeling pretty good. I had to get used to the little time difference because we got in kind of late into Seattle on Tuesday night," recalled DeAngelo. "But, I've adapted and I'm feeling pretty good today. I'm excited about tomorrow. I should be pretty well-rested. Body-wise, I'm feeling pretty good and healthy. I'm excited to see what I can do"

DeAngelo vies for a top time in the men's 3,000 meter tomorrow at 6:01 p.m. PDT (9:01 p.m. EDT). Streaming is available through USATF.tv+ ($).
