LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Director of Athletics
Peter Casey has announced the resignation of men's lacrosse head coach
Ed Stephenson. Stephenson, the fifth head coach in program history and the first at the Division I level, led the River Hawks for the last eight seasons.
"I'm grateful to Coach Stephenson for his efforts in helping us reestablish men's lacrosse at UMass Lowell and for his guidance in building a Division I program here over the last eight years," said Casey. "We will begin a national search for our next head coach immediately. We are fully invested in the success of our student-athletes, both on and off the field, and have high expectations for the next era in River Hawk lacrosse."
Stephenson finished his tenure at UMass Lowell with a 28-77 overall record. He led the team to a Division I best eight wins and a .500 winning percentage in 2018 en route to an America East Conference Championship berth.
"I want to thank our alums and current student-athletes, as well as my colleagues for the wonderful relationships I've been fortunate to establish as the head coach of the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse program," commented Stephenson. "I especially want to thank the student-athletes for their perseverance through the past two and a half years of the COVID-19 era."
