LOWELL, Mass. – Six River Hawks tallied a goal as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-13, 1-5 AE) fell, 12-6, to the Brown Bears (7-7, 3-3 Ivy) on Tuesday night at Cushing Field.

"I think we're getting better and better," said head coach Lisa Miller. "We played solid defense. We had to sort through the clear at different times, but I think we figured that out."

On offense, juniors Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.), Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.), Anna Bauter (Dexter, N.Y.), and Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.) all recorded a goal. Freshman Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) also added in a goal, and freshman Daia Hansford (Bowie, Md.) recorded the first goal of her career.

Both teams opened the game with a strong defensive possession, recording multiple saves and not allowing a goal through the first six minutes. Brown was the first team to get on the board, recording a goal with 8:52 remaining in the first. However, exactly three minutes later junior Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.) retaliated with a free-position goal, tying the game. Thirty seconds later Brown would take back the lead, but with 3:51 remaining junior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) found the back of the net to tie the game at two.

Minutes into the second quarter, UMass Lowell found their first lead of the night off the goal by freshman Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.). Just over a minute later, freshman Daia Hansford (Bowie, Md.) caught a pass from Liquori and fired it past the goalie for her first career goal. However, the 4-2 lead would not stay for long, as Brown tallied four straight goals to take a two-goal lead. Right before the half, junior Anna Bauter (Dexter, N.Y.) tallied her seventh goal of the year, cutting the lead to one.

Coming out of the half, Brown began to build on their lead, adding two goals in the first five minutes to go up by three. Despite multiple shots on goal in the quarter, the River Hawks were unable to bury one in the net. With five minutes remaining, Brown added one more to take a 9-5 lead heading into the final quarter.

In the final quarter, Brown continued their scoring run, adding three more goals to extend their lead to 12-5. With 4:29 remaining, Shaw added in a goal to cut the lead to six, but the River Hawks could not find another goal before the clock hit zero.

After tonight's game, the River Hawks season comes to an end, finishing with a 4-13 record and a 1-5 record in conference play.
