WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Registering a handful of top-10 showings, the UMass Lowell track & field team closed out its two-day stint at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary Saturday afternoon on a high note.  
 
"We had another excellent day," commented Head Coach Gary Gardner.
 
Highlighting day two, freshman James Kotowski claimed second overall in the javelin throw off an outstanding 65.89m (216'2") toss. On top of registering a career-best, Kotowski's mark shattered the previously held school record of 209'9" set back in 2014 by Devin O'Neil.
 
"James set a school record in the javelin and likely an NCAA regional qualifying mark. He set the record on his second throw then broke it on his fourth. His entire series was outstanding," remarked Gardner. "We hoped for a big weekend after Coach Barbara Smith said [his throw] was looking outstanding in practice."
 
Continuing the success for the UMass Lowell throwers, the trio of senior Hayden Dillow (Franklin, Mass.), freshman Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and graduate student DeReginald Walker (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) finished two-five-eight in the university group of the men's discus throw. Dillow led the group with a 41.97m (137'8" toss), followed by Camerato at 40.30m (132'2") and Walker with a personal-best 40.02m (131'3") mark.
 
Closing out the field events for the men, sophomore Maxwell Davis (Stoneham, Mass.) cleared 4.30m (14'1.25") in the pole vault to finish in a three-way tie for third.
 
On the track, the River Hawk quartet comprised of sophomores Adam Katerji (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Aras Kaya (Winchester, Mass.), juniors Ryan Casebolt (Boxborough,  Mass.) and Timothy Champlin (Charlestown, R.I.) took on the men's 1,600m sprint medley relay. Edging out Manhattan with a 3:33.0 time, the relay team picked up fifth overall and added four points to UMass Lowell's team score.
 
Mirroring the success of their counterparts on the men's squad, the UMass Lowell women's throwing contingent dominated in the women's university shot put.
 
"The four women shot putters also had a good weekend with two PRs and excellent placements," said Gardner.
 
Freshman Arlene Davila (Peabody, Mass.) and junior Shataeya Smith (Malden, Mass.) registered a pair of career bests in the event, hitting 11.99m (39'4") and 11.93m (39'1.75") to pick up seventh and ninth, respectively.
 
Joining them, sophomore Martina Nkwantah (Pepperell, Mass.) and graduate student Jasmine McFarlane (South Yarmouth, Mass.) tossed to top-5 finishes in the field event. Claiming first, Nkwantah threw to a 12.78m (41'11.25") mark while McFarlane claimed fourth off a 12.12m (39'9.25") distance.
 
On the track, junior Avery Leydon (Woburn, Mass.) clocked in at 2:11.19 to cruise to a third-place finish in the women's 800m championship.
 
The River Hawks return to action next weekend, splitting between the Friar Invitational hosted by Providence College on April 8-9, and the Wildcat Invite hosted by New Hampshire on April 9.
