Wednesday v Holy Cross: Watch | Live Stats

LOWELL, Mass.—The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (1-10, 1-4 America East) closes out its home slate this Wednesday, April 20, with a non-conference showdown against in-state foe Holy Cross (0-11 0-7 Patriot). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks suffered a heartbreaking 11-7 loss at home last weekend to America East opponent UMBC. Junior Nick Harvath (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) led the crew with a career outing against the Retrievers. The midfielder registered his first collegiate hat trick as well as a career-high four points after adding an assist to his total. Behind Harvath, sophomore Jake Davis (Franklin, Mass.) and junior Conor Foley (Walpole, Mass.) notched two points apiece. Davis net a goal and an assist while Foley dished out a pair of helpers.

Senior Liam McDonough (Groton, Mass.) had an outstanding performance at the faceoff X for the River Hawks. The faceoff specialist dominated, winning 13 of his 21 faceoff attempts. He also picked up a team-best four ground balls alongside sophomore defenseman Ethan Zupko (Livonia, Mich). McDonough also now leads all of America East in ground balls per game with 6.73.  In the cage, sophomore Anthony Mancino (Holbrook, N.Y.) posted 10 saves.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
An electric presence on attack, Foley treks on through his explosive season for the River Hawks with his 26 goals and nine assists for a career-best 35 points. Backing up Foley's productivity, graduate student Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) and Davis round out UMass Lowell's top three scorers with 23 and 20 points, respectively. The trio of high-scoring attackers accounts for 50% of the River Hawks' scoring this season with just two games left on the slate.

On defense, freshmen Alex Chairs and Ryan Quinlan continue their rookie success in front of the cage. After forcing two turnovers last week, Chairs moved into first place on the UMass Lowell scoresheet with 10 caused turnovers this season. Quinlan sits just behind his classmate with nine in his 11 appearances.

In the cage, Mancino resumes his role as the primary goalie for the UMass Lowell crew. He owns a team-best .422 save percentage and 15.28 goals against average in his nine starts.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
The Crusaders visit the Mill City on the hunt for their first win of the season. Facing a tough stretch of conference foes, the Crusaders enter Wednesday coming off a 23-7 loss to Bucknell. Junior Dean DiNanno paces the crew with 24 points off 12 goals and 12 assists in his 11 starts for Holy Cross. Just two points back, senior Will Spangenberg sits atop the Crusaders' crew with 13 goals this season. On defense, the River Hawks face senior Chris Conlin, who currently ranks second in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 2.82. In the cage, sophomore Dawson Friers established himself as the starting goalie for the Crusaders this year, making seven starts. Last weekend, Friers matched his season-high in saves with 18 against Bucknell.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE CRUSADERS
Prior to Wednesday, the two programs have only met twice since the River Hawks joined Division I. Both times, Holy Cross came out victorious. In their first meeting in 2019, the River Hawks fell 12-7 to the Crusaders on home turf. The following season, UMass Lowell ventured West to Worcester where they fell 13-12 in an overtime thriller.

A WIN WOULD
A win against Holy Cross would mark a program first for the River Hawks and would snap the current three-game losing streak.
