LOWELL, Mass.—The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (1-9, 1-3 America East) eyes a win this weekend as they host UMBC (3-5, 1-2 AE) on Saturday, April 16, in their penultimate game at Cushing Field. Faceoff is slated for noon. Before the game, the team will honor the class of 2022 with a senior day ceremony on the field.

LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday, the River Hawks faced a tough loss to top-ranked conference foe Vermont at home. Graduate student Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) led the team with two goals and one assist for one point. Junior attacker Conor Foley (Walpole, Mass.) matched Giachello's goal total with a pair to extend his active scoring streak to eleven games. Junior Nick Harvath (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) dished out a pair of assists on top of a lone goal to amass three points against the Catamounts.

In the cage, sophomore Anthony Mancino (Holbrook, N.Y.), graduate student Paul Macrina (Wrentham, Mass.) and freshman Calvin Desmarais (Dracut, Mass.) all saw action against Vermont. Macrina led the crew with six stops while Mancino made five saves.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Foley, Giachello, junior Brian Wiles (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Jake Davis (Franklin, Mass.) continue to lead the River Hawks' scoring efforts as they inch closer to the end of the season. Foley's 26 goals put him at the top of the leaderboard in the category, followed by Giachello with 12, Davis with 14 and Wiles with 12. Giachello also paces the squad in helpers with 11 so far this season. The freshman duo of Quinlan and Chairs continue to be dominant on defense for the River Hawks with nine and eight caused turnovers, respectively. At the faceoff X, McDonough is seeing his best season since 2019, going 127 for 253 for a .502 faceoff percentage. In the cage, Mancino continues to be the leader on the field for UMass Lowell this year. In his eight games, the sophomore has seen 349:06 minutes of action and registered a team-best .415 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
UMBC ended their three-game losing streak last weekend with a dominant 16-7 win over UAlbany at home. Sophomore Brian Tregoning and junior Mike Doughty both logged six-point efforts in the victory. A scoring force for the Retrievers, Doughty leads the squad in points with 10 goals and 13 assists for 23. The attacker ranks second in the conference with 1.63 assists per game. Graduate student Brett Baucia sits atop the UMBC stat sheet in goals with a team-best 14 goals. He is also the lone Retriever to register a point in all eight games this year. In the cage, freshman Tommy Lingner leads the Retriever defense and ranks 13th in the nation with a 10.26 goals against average. At the X, Zach Dudley has been the go-to faceoff specialist for UMBC, winning 101 of his 183 faceoff attempts for a .552 faceoff percentage. Heading into the weekend, the Retrievers sit atop the nation in man-down defense, allowing just four man-up goals against in their eight games.

A WIN WOULD
A win against the Retrievers would push the River Hawks to a 3-4 record all-time against UMBC. It would also mark the first time UMass Lowell has taken down UMBC since 2019 and the first time they've picked up a win against the Retrievers since 2018.
