PRINCETON, N.J.—
The UMass Lowell track and field team capped its weekend with a trip to the Garden State to take on the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton on Friday afternoon.

Representing the women's crew in the 1,500 meter, senior Izzy Giesing (Bradford, Vt.) turned in an outstanding performance to claim second overall in a personal-best 4:20.01 to shatter her previous fastest time.

The senior distance champion clocked in less than a second after professional runner Grace Moore to pace the collegiate crew. With her time, Giesing has unofficially secured a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary in Bloomington, Ind.

"It was Izzy's first real 1,500-meter race, so for her to run an NCAA time is excellent," commented Head Coach Gary Gardner. "[There's] still some things to clean up, but it's good start."

Competing for the men, graduate student Daniel Cosgrove (Boxford, Mass.) clocked a season-best 3:49.16 in the 1,500 meter to finish second in his heat and 26th overall in the packed event.

"Danny ran well. He's way ahead of where he was last year, so we are very pleased," said Gardner.

The River Hawks look ahead to a busy schedule next weekend as they split time between the Virginia Challenge hosted by Virginia, April 22-23, and the George Davis Invitational at home on April 23.
