LOWELL, Mass. and RALEIGH, N.C.—The UMass Lowell men's track and field team registered a bevy of personal bests this weekend, splitting time between the 2022 UMass Lowell Invitational and the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.

The River Hawks dominated the competition on their home turf to put up 229 points. Behind UMass Lowell, Stonehill College finished second with 56 points and Hartford closed out the top three with 54.

"It was great to see the team compete well at the home meet," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "The goal for the weekend was to be competitive, which they certainly were. Many set themselves up for excellent springs. We're really looking forward to the Colonial Relays next weekend."

The River Hawks throwing contingent came out strong to open the day at the Cushing Field Complex. Graduate student
Patrick Pang (Peabody, Mass.) kicked the day off with first in the hammer throw off a 54.12-meter toss. Senior
Hayden Dillow (Franklin, Mass.) landed just behind Pang in the hammer with a second-place mark of 46.81-meters to claim a new personal best. Joining with a career best of his own, graduate student
DeReginald Walker (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) hit 43.70-meters to earn fourth.

Dillow continued his hot streak in the discus, tossing to a career-best 43.12 meters to claim first. Just short of Dillow's toss, freshman
Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) hit 41.29 in his first collegiate attempt at the event. Rounding out UMass Lowell's commanding showing in the discus, sophomore
Luis Cadime (Lowell, Mass.) clinched fifth off 39.23 meters.

Taking on the javelin, sophomore
Zach Cardoso (Newton, N.H.) hit a personal-best distance of 58.41 meters to pick up first place.

The jumpers picked up right where their teammates left off, picking up three top-five marks in the long jump. Junior
Evans Oduro (Kumasi, Ghana) leapt his way to first, hitting 6.76 meters to lead the group. Coming in third and fifth, respectively, seniors
Elie Kalambayi (Lynn, Mass.) and
Juan Avelino (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) picked up personal bests of 6.60 meters and 6.28 meters.

Closing out the day in the field, sophomores
Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) and
Maxwell Davis (Stoneham, Mass.) placed third in the high jump (1.91m) and pole vault (4.05m), respectively.

Heading to the track, UMass Lowell's sprinters dominated. In the 400 meter, the River Hawks took four of the top five spots with junior
Sean Glass (Haverhill, Mass.) pacing the crew with a career-best 50.88 time. Next up, sophomore
Adam Katerji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) clinched second with a 51.47 time. Claiming fourth, sophomore
Tanner Jellison (Wakefield, Mass.) clocked in at 51.72 for his fastest collegiate finish in the sprint. Closing out the top five, sophomore
Rodrigo Freitas (Billerica, Mass.) ran a 52.34 time to place fifth.

UMass Lowell earned another first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles thanks to an all-out effort by junior
Shawn Stairs Jr. (Ackworth, Ga.), who crossed in 57.52 to take the top spot.

Capping the homestand in the 1,500 meter, sophomores
Joe Young (Dorchester, Mass.),
Tyler Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) and senior
Christopher McCauliff (Lunenburg, Mass.) went two-three-five to pick up major points for the River Hawks. With 4:01.70 and 4:02.33 times, respectively, Sullivan and McCauliff both set new career marks in the event.

The lone competitor for the men in Raleigh, graduate student
Cody Moran (Weymouth, Mass.) battled through a packed field to finish the men's 800 meter in 1:55.65.

Marching on through the outdoor slate, the River Hawks visit William & Mary next weekend, March 31-April 2, for the 2022 Colonial Relays. Â
