River Hawks Face Holy Cross Before Home Opener Against Binghamton

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team (4-13, 0-3 America East) team will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders (3-17, 0-0 Patriot League) on Wednesday, March 23 at 5 p.m. The River Hawks will then host the Binghamton Bearcats (3-13, 0-3 America East) in their home opening series. Game one of the weekend series is set for 3 p.m. on Friday, March 25 at Lelacheur Park.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
 
UMass Lowell enters the weekend after going 0-3 against Stony Brook to open conference play last weekend. The River Hawks will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Wednesday. Senior Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) leads the team batting .371 on the year with a .613 slugging percentage. The senior has 23 hits, 15 RBIs, and a team-high four home runs this season. Fellow senior Gerry Siracusa (Kinnelon, N.J.) is batting .368 with a .618 slugging percentage. Siracusa has 25 hits and 15 RBIs, as well as team-highs in runs (18) and doubles (6). Freshman Brandon Fish (Londonderry, N.H.) has impressed in his rookie campaign, tallying 18 hits, 19 RBIs, and nine runs scored. Fellow freshman Jacob Humphrey (Standish, Maine) has also had a solid start to his rookie season with 16 hits and 11 runs scored.
 
ON THE MOUND
 
Freshman LJ Keevan (Holden, Mass.) continues to impress in his rookie campaign, with a 2-1 record and a 4.76 ERA. The freshman has 21 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. Graduate student Ryan Towle (Westfield, Mass.) leads the team with 32 strikeouts in 21.1 innings this season. Towle has an 8.02 ERA with a 1-3 record. Freshman Brendan Holland (North Andover, Mass.) will make his second career start against the Crusaders on Wednesday. Holland is 0-1 on the season with a 7.11 ERA. He has three strikeouts in 6.1 innings this year.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADORS
 
Nick Wang leads the team batting .351 on the year with 26 hits and eight RBIs. Wang has scored 15 runs and has hit 11 doubles through in 20 appearances. Sam Kirkpatrick has 22 hits this season, with 13 runs scored, five doubles, and five RBIs. On the mound, Jack DiLauro leads the team with 29 strikeouts on the year while Tyler Mudd has struck out 24 batters on the season. The Crusaders' pitching core has a collective ERA of 7.53 through 20 games.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
 
Binghamton comes to Lowell with a 3-13 overall record and an 0-3 mark in conference play. The Bearcats were swept by the Maine Black Bears last weekend in their home opening series. Evin Sullivan leads the Bearcats batting .314 with 16 hits and eight runs scored. Cavan Tully has 13 hits and 10 runs scored with nine RBIs, batting .302 this year. The Binghamton pitching core has 110 strikeouts on the year with a team ERA of 8.51 through 16 games.
 
STOLEN GOODS
 
As a unit, the River Hawks have stolen 36 bases on 40 attempts this season. Robert Gallagher has 13 stolen bases on the year in 13 attempts. Jacob Humphrey is 9-9 on stolen base attempts in his rookie campaign. Sophomore Fritz Genther (Kingston, N.Y.) is 6-7 in stolen base attempts. Gerry Siracusa is also 4-5 this season.

Ryan Towle leads the pitching core with 32 strikeouts on the year. LJ Keevan has struck out 21 while sophomore Brendan Williams (Auburn, N.Y.) has sat 15 batters this season. Fellow sophomore Michael Quigley (Halifax, Mass.) has struck out thirteen. Eight other River Hawks have recorded at least one strikeout this year for UMass Lowell.  As a unit, the River Hawks have recorded 129 strikeouts through 17 games.
 
GOING YARD
 
UMass Lowell has hit a collective 16 home runs through 17 games in the 2022 campaign. Gallagher has a team-high four home runs while Brandon Fish, Gerry Siracusa, and junior Ryan Proto (Centerville, Mass.) have each hit three homers this season. Junior Cedric Rose (Pittsfield, Mass.) has also sent two over the fences.
