LOWELL, Mass.—With opening faceoff for the 2022 campaign on the horizon, UMass Lowell men's lacrosse head coach
Ed Stephenson has announced his leadership core for the season, comprised of graduate students
Kyle Laforge (Tyngsboro, Mass.),
Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) and
Paul Macrina (Wrentham, Mass.).
No strangers to the captaincy, Laforge and Giachello earned the distinction last year ahead of their senior season. Macrina, a transfer goalie from Drexel, brings in a wealth of knowledge and experience from his four years with the Dragons.
Appearing in 87 combined career games, Laforge and Giachello return as key players on the River Hawks attack unit. Last season, the pair combined for 20 points with Laforge notching seven and Giachello accounting for five. On top of his five, Giachello tied for first on the team in assists with eight. Meanwhile, Macrina was a member of the 2021 Drexel squad that claimed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title last year.
The River Hawks open their 2022 campaign at home at Cushing Field on Saturday, February 12, with a non-conference tilt against Quinnipiac. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m.
