River Hawks Visit Connecticut, Sacred Heart This Weekend

LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off of a last-second victory, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-2, 0-0 America East) will travel to Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies (1-1, 0-0 Big East) on Thursday evening, followed by a matchup at Sacred Heart (0-1, 0-0 NEC) on Sunday afternoon.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Molly Shaw led the River Hawks with four goals, including a game-winner with two seconds remaining, in an 11-10 victory against Marist on February 20. Although the Red Foxes led for most of the game, the River Hawks were able to pull ahead for the first time with only two minutes remaining, and then once more with only seconds remaining. Alongside Shaw, Emily Stratton added three goals and an assist, and Megan Brockbank chipped in a goal and three assists, giving them four points each. Jillian Schumacher played all 60 minutes in net, tallying five saves with a .333 save percentage.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Megan Brockbank has recorded six assists and totals nine points, both leading the River Hawks through three games. Molly Shaw's seven goals pace the River Hawks' offense, while Layton Nass and Julia Napolitano lead the defense with five caused turnovers each. Jade Catlin's 12 draw control victories lead the team, with Nass shortly behind with nine on the season.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Connecticut hosts the River Hawks coming off of a game against #13 James Madison in which they fell, 13-7. The No. 25 ranked team in the nation, UConn is led by Sydney Watson, who has recorded a team-high seven points, and is tied for the team lead with five goals. In net, Landyn White has played all 120 minutes, totaling an 11.50 GAA, with 16 saves and a .410 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart, who has only played one game this year, lost to Yale, 15-4, last weekend. In the setback, the Pioneers had four players record a goal. Defensively, Natalie Cook led the team, tallying team highs in ground balls collected (6) and caused turnovers (3). In net, Lisa Martin recorded 13 saves on 44 shots faced, totaling a .464 save percentage in 60 minutes of play.  
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would increase the River Hawks' winning streak, while also getting them back to a .500 record. Two wins would also give head coach Lisa Miller her 200th career win.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell has only faced Connecticut twice, with the Huskies winning both games. In the most recent matchup, the Huskies took down the River Hawks, 18-5, on February 26, 2021. Against Sacred Heart, the River Hawks have won two of the five matchups. In the most recent matchup, which took place on March 16, 2019, the Pioneers pulled away late to win 11-8.
