DURHAM, N.H.– The UMass Lowell track and field program continued its hot streak, turning in stellar performances across the board at the University of New Hampshire dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The men's program bested New Hampshire in more than 10 events on the backs of several impressive efforts. Leading the way, senior
Patrick Pang (Peabody, Mass.) set a new personal best with a mark of 18.49m (60'8") in the weight throw to earn first place.
"Pat had another great day with his first 18-meter throw," remarked Head Coach
Gary Gardner.
The River Hawks dominated in the weight throw and shot put events, placing atop the leaderboard with three members in each event.
"Overall, the throwing team had an outstanding day," commented Gardner.
On the track, sophomore
Baijeon Bookal edged out his teammate to grab the top spot in the men's 55-meter dash with a time of 6.49 in his first-ever collegiate attempt.
Shifting gears to the distance events, UMass Lowell took the top six spots in the men's 3,000-meter. Led by junior
Jack Kalil's (Milford, Mass.) 8:50.61 time, freshman
Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) came in just seconds after to clock in at 8:55.12, crushing his previous personal best mark.
On the women's side, the River Hawks collected multiple first-place finishes at the Paul Sweet Oval. Among them,
Martina Nkwantah (Pepperell, Mass.) hit 13.07 meters (42'10.75") in the shot put to put her at the top of the event and set a new personal best. Rounding out a strong field outing for the River Hawks, junior
Rachel Hill (North Reading, Mass.) came through with an incredible performance in the pole vault. Gliding over 3.66-meters (12'0"), Hill smashed her previous career best and surpassed her previous school record set in 2020.
"Rachel set another school record today. She's been extremely consistent all season. It's been fun to watch her develop and gain confidence week-to-week," stated Gardner.
On the track, sophomore
Leah Rudolph (Gloucester, Mass.) took home fourth in the 400-meter run for the River Hawks with a time of 1:02.8. In just her second-ever attempt in the sprint event, freshman
Kacie To (Weymouth) came out eighth overall with a 1:12.65 finish.
Junior
Olivia Sheffield (Lowell, Mass.) kept UMass Lowell moving forward with a second-place finish amongst a sea of her teammates in the 1,000 meters, crossing the line in 3:09.24. Junior
Sarah Burns (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore
Allison Anusauskas (Auburn, Mass.) came in hot on Sheffield's heels, clocking in at 3:10.67 and 3:14.03, respectively.
Closing out the events for the women with the 3,000 meter, freshman
Asaliah Mirambeaux (Lowell, Mass.) put up a time of 11:01.94 to snag a third-place finish for the River Hawks.
Next up, the River Hawks head to Boston to battle for the 2022 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship. The two-day competition kicks off on Friday, February 25 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
