River Hawks Announce 2023 Leadership Group

12/6/2022 4:30:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass.—Newly appointed UMass Lowell men's lacrosse Head Coach Drew Kelleher announced his leadership group for the 2023 season Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Nick Harvath (Whitemore Lake, Mich.) and sophomore Alexander Chairs (Ellicott City, Md.) will serve as co-captains for the River Hawks. Both earn the captaincy nod for the first time in their collegiate careers.

"Nick and Alex are two fantastic representatives of our program. They are both excellent players who have demonstrated great leadership characteristics this fall," remarked Kelleher.

Harvath has been a staple in the midfield for the River Hawks in his three seasons, emerging as a critical contributor during his junior year. In 2022, Harvath saw action in all 13 games for UMass Lowell, with three starts to his credit. The Michigan-born attacking midfielder net a career-high 20 points last season off career-best numbers in both goals (10) and assists (10) to finish fifth on the team. He also tied for second on the team in man-up tallies with three.

Entering his second season, Chairs impressed during his rookie campaign. An intimidating presence on defense, the 6-5 sophomore started all but one game for the River Hawks last year. Chairs also finished third on the team with 28 groundballs and led the team in caused turnovers with 12.

The River Hawks kick off the 2023 campaign on the road at Quinnipiac on February 11.
