NEW YORK, N.Y. - The UMass Lowell men's basketball team (1-0) will hit the road for the first time in 2022-23 for a weekend in New York as part of a multi-team event. The squad opens the in-season MTE at Columbia (0-1) on Thursday for just their second meeting since UMass Lowell moved to Division I in 2013.
A WIN WOULD
A win against the Lions would mark the first victory in the series for the River Hawks since the teams met during UMass Lowell's inaugural season at the DI level. It would also mark the third consecutive year with a win in the team's road opener.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Six different River Hawks scored in double figures in the team's season opener against Fisher, led by Everette Hammond with 23 points. Aboul Karim Coulibaly added 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Mikey Watkins dished out four assists with three steals.
LAST TIME OUT
Everette Hammond registered a game-high 23 points, as UMass Lowell opened the 2022-23 campaign with a 108-43 win against Fisher College on Nov. 7. Hammond went a team-best, 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to lead six double-digit scorers. Abdoul Karim Coulibaly chipped in with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, both of which were personal bests. A total of 10 different River Hawks scored a point in the contest, as the team shot 51.8% (44-85) from the field.

The victory against Fisher marked the River Hawks' third straight season-opening victory and ninth consecutive win in a home opener.
SHARING IS CARING
Of the 11 River Hawks who hit the court against Fisher, 10 scored at least three points. In that outing, the team boasted six, double-digit scorers for the first time since 2017-18 (at Maine, 1/31/18).
STEALING THE SHOW
In the opener against Fisher, the River Hawks forced 14 takeaways, the most for the team since their last meeting against the Falcons (16, 11/27/21).
STRONG FIRST IMPRESSION
Three River Hawk newcomers scored in double digits against Fisher.
ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Max Brooks, who was named to the America East All-Defensive Team following the conclusion of the 2021-22 regular season, has been named to the league's Preseason All-Conference Team to start 2022-23.
DOUBLING UP
Abdoul Karim Coulibaly logged his first career double-double in his first game as a River Hawk on Nov. 7. He totaled a personal best 15 points and 12 rebounds in the decision.
