LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0 AE) hits the road for a Friday matchup with the #11 Indiana Hoosiers (1-0, 0-0 B1G) in Bloomington. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks opened the new campaign with an 81-53 loss Monday night at Boston College. Jaliena Sanchez led the way with 16 points and added five assists. Kaylen Banwareesingh scored three points and added a team-high nine rebounds. Jaini Edmonds scored 10 points and had two blocks. Ella Ner scored her first collegiate points, totaling five on the night, and Mili Carrera got on the board with three points in her first game as a River Hawk.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
Indiana welcomes the River Hawks after taking down Vermont 86-49 on Tuesday night. Yarden Garzon led the team with 19 points while Mackenize Holmes, Grace Berger and Sara Scalia all tallied double-digits points as well. Sydney Parrish had a team-high four steals and added eight points. The Hoosiers currently rank #11 in the NCAA national rankings. Last season, Indiana finished with a 24-9 overall record and an 11-5 mark in league play and earned a spot in the WNIT tournament.
A WIN WOULD
A win would be a first ever win over Indiana. A win would also be the first win of the season for the River Hawks.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Jaliena Sanchez leads the team in scoring after putting up 16 points against Boston College and leads the team with five assists. Kaylen Banwareesingh tallied a team-high nine rebounds in the only game this season, tied for second in the league. Sydney Coombs leads the team with three steals. UMass Lowell ranks seventh in the conference in scoring offense, scoring defense and scoring margin.
NEW TO THE NEST
The River Hawks welcome two newcomers to the 2022-23 roster. Graduate student Mili Carrera joins the team after four years at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma where she scored 1,229 points in her career. Freshman Ella Ner enters her first season with UMass Lowell after playing with the Israel National Team throughout her high school career. Carrera and Ner bring a new dynamic to the River Hawks on both ends of the floor.
COACHING STAFF COMPLETE
Denise King completed her coaching staff prior to the start of the new season. John Owens joins the staff as an assistant coach, working primarily with the guards on both ends of the floor. Marcus Young was named the director of basketball operations over the summer. King now has a full staff ready for the new campaign ahead.
SENIOR CLASS

Denise King has worked with this talented senior class for the entirety of their collegiate career. The class is a crucial part of the program. Jaliena Sanchez and Kaylen Banwareesingh return to the Rive Hawk roster and will once again be looked upon to lead the team this season.
PRESEASON CONFERENCE RANKS
UMass Lowell was picked to finish sixth in the America East Conference in the leagueís preseason poll, receiving 27 points. UAlbany received 59 points and seven first-place votes, earning the top spot in the poll. Maine, Vermont, NJIT and Binghamton sit in spots two through five. New Hampshire and Byrant tied for seventh and UMBC was picked ninth.
