Aaron Gray Release

River Hawks Welcome Aaron Gray to Coaching Staff

11/1/2022 2:00:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Lisa Miller has announced the addition of Aaron Gray as assistant coach ahead of the 2023 season.

Gray joins the River Hawks after spending the 2022 season as a volunteer assistant for the University of Colorado Women's Lacrosse team. While there, Gray was involved in planning practices, developing game strategy, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and serving as the team's video coordinator.

"Aaron, who will be working with the goalkeepers and draw control unit, is a wonderful addition to the coaching staff," said head coach Lisa Miller. "Having spent time with the Colorado men's and women's team he brings a different perspective and new ideas which are always welcome as we continue to advance the program competitively within the league and nationally."

Prior to his time at Colorado, Gray was both a varsity and JV lacrosse coach for the Sacramento Lacrosse Club in 2019. Having the responsibility of coaching both teams, Gray spent a lot of time coordinating drills for various skills levels, from beginner to college committed players, while also implementing new concepts and communication skills. He also met with all levels of the club (from youth up to varsity, boys and girls) to coordinate the overall vision of the club.

Before he joined Sacramento in 2019, Gray spent six years in his first stint at the University of Colorado, however this time was as a defensive coordinator for the Men's Lacrosse team. Primarily, Gray worked on and built strategy, concept, and mentality of the defensive unit. Like his time with the women's program, he also recruited nationally to ensure consistent high-level talent. During this time was also where he learned the indispensable value of watching hours of film alone, with staff, and with players.

"I'm very excited to be welcomed into this program," said Gray. "The foundations that were laid the last few years put us in a position for great things this year and has set us up for even greater success in the years to come. I look forward to contributing in every way I can. There is no ceiling on what this program can achieve and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the future excellence that the River Hawks will manifest on and off the field."

Gray began his coaching experience as a varsity assistant for the Miami Country Day School in 2012. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2010 with a bachelor's in Business Management, and earned his master's in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in 2013.
