BOSTON—UMass Lowell cross country runners
Will Benoit (Fairhaven, Mass.) and
Caroline O'Shea (Nashua, N.H.) have swept the final round of America East Weekly Awards, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Benoit and O'Shea were named the America East Performers of the Week after impressive performances at the CCSU Mini Meet to lift the men's and women's teams to sixth and fourth-place finishes overall. The weekly honor marks the first of the year and first of his career for Benoit, while O'Shea picks up her second of the season after earning the nod just two weeks ago.
In the men's 5k, Benoit clocked a personal-best time of 15:13.0 to finish 11th overall and lead the River Hawks to the top-five team performance. O'Shea wrapped up her regular season in the women's 3K with a personal best of her own, crossing the finish line in 10:08.1 to place fourth overall.
With this week's announcement, UMass Lowell secures their third weekly award sweep to conclude the season. In addition to three weeks with both the male and female Performers of the Week, the River Hawks earned at least one weekly award nod in six of the eight weeks during the regular season.
UMass Lowell chases the three-peat at the 2022 America East Cross Country Championship this Saturday, Oct. 29, in Baltimore, Md.
