Nick Barese Elevated to Associate Head Coach

10/20/2022 2:08:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell baseball head coach Ken Harring has announced the promotion of Nick Barese to associate head coach on Tuesday afternoon. Barese joined the staff in December 2021 as an assistant coach and spent the 2022 season working with the pitching core.

Harring is thrilled to have Barese around for years to come and build on the success he has already helped bring to the team.

"Nick's promotion is well deserved. His resume, with several years of head coaching experience, adds to his credibility, said head coach Ken Harring. "He made an immediate impact on our pitching staff that has set a number of Division I program records. He also had first and second team all-conference representation last season. His elevation to associate head coach brings stability to our staff and I look forward to working with him for years to come."

Last season, Barese helped the pitching staff break several team records, including the team single-season strikeout record with 444 on the year, as well individual records.

"I want to thank Coach Harring and Peter Casey for this opportunity and their continued effort to make this happen," said Barese. "Since day one, Coach Harring and UMass Lowell have made me feel welcome, and I'm fortunate my family and I will get to call LeLacheur Park home for a long time. The culture of the university, the athletic department and the baseball program is one I'm proud to be a part of."

Barese helped two pitchers earn postseason honors last season with graduate student Joshua Becker (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore LJ Keevan (Holden, Mass.) being selected to the America East All-Conference First Team. He also helped the team reach their first ever America East Championship game behind stellar performances from the pitching core to knock off No. 5 UMBC, No. 1 Maine and No. 3 NJIT.
